At Arcwell Developments, we thrive on high-stakes projects that demand agility, precision, and a strong commitment to the communities we serve. Last winter, we put those qualities to the ultimate test with a critical housing project in rural Nova Scotia, battling extreme conditions to deliver lasting solutions.🌨️ 🔨 Project Snapshot: We were tasked with constructing insulated concrete form (ICF) foundations for six modular homes in a remote community facing urgent challenges. With high storage fees accumulating and essential funding at risk, our team mobilized quickly to tackle this ambitious project head-on. 💪 Overcoming Challenges: Extreme Winter Weather: Starting construction in the heart of winter wasn’t easy, but we embraced the challenge. In addition time Constraints and the pressure of impending deadlines kept us focused and efficient. 🌱 Fostering Community Connections: Engaging local trades was crucial. By involving community members, we not only built homes but also created job opportunities and fostered pride in ownership. ✅ Impactful Results: We completed the project on time and within budget, delivering financial relief and enhanced housing stock & quality to our community partner. 🏡 Highland Housing Challenge 🏘 Earlier this week Highland Council convened the inaugural Highland Housing Challenge Summit in Aviemore to address the extremely pressing and increasing issue of housing. While I was unable to attend I was very lucky to receive a great summary from Savills planner Philip Graham. On Balnagown Estates as well as having land from the Cromarty Firth, through the Kyle of Sutherland to Rosehall we also have a small number of properties we let out on long term leases. In the past 2 years particularly we have seen the demand, when a property comes available, sky rocket. This high demand appears to be partially driven by landlords coming out of the market due to the increased legislative burden, but also, as alluded to at the summit, the pressing need for accommodation to support those working on the reported £110 billion of infrastructure work planned for the Highlands over the next 10 years. We are already starting to see that impact now from the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, the SSEN Transmission Beauly to Spittal Transmission upgrade and the burgeoning renewables sector. With the Highland Councils call for ideas now live it is important that land owners both small and large engage so that land desperately needed for housing can be identified for a forth coming Highland-wide Local Development Plan. How great does this project look! 🤩 Australia's largest standalone housing development is on the horizon, with Walker Corp leading the race in Greater Sydney's south-west. 🌟 Exciting News! In 2023, Outagamie County, Calumet County, and Fox Cities Greenways, Inc. joined together to form the Calumet County Coalition. Our collaborative efforts have been recognized by the USEPA, which has awarded us a $1,000,000 Brownfields Coalition Assessment Grant. This grant is a one of a kind opportunity for our community, as it's dedicated to revitalizing brownfield sites and fostering sustainable redevelopment across Calumet and Outagamie Counties. 🏗️ What does this mean for our region? The grant funds will be utilized for a range of essential activities, including: • Conducting comprehensive brownfield site inventories • Performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments • Assessing existing buildings for Asbestos, Lead-based Paint, and Restricted Waste • Carrying out thorough site investigations • Developing robust remedial and reuse plans • Engaging in vital community outreach and education initiatives 🔍 But here's where YOU come in! Our approach ensures the initiative aligns with national, regional, and local transport strategies, while meeting the statutory duties under the Traffic Management Act 2004. The outcome? A robust policy document that supports both road safety and efficient transport management across Luton.
