Conserve water now to reduce the amount entering municipal sewers: • Delay showers and baths • Flush less frequently • Wait to run the dishwasher or washing machine Flooding and sewer backups can happen for a variety of reasons, ranging from conveyance of water flow in local pipes, the groundwater table, undersized drainage designs and roof loads, and sump pumps attached to house lines. To help prevent flooding inside or around your home, there are actions you and your family can take before and during rainfall. Learn more about how to prepare for stormwater here: https://lnkd.in/ghZYrwJT. MWRD staff work 24/7 protecting the water environment, mitigating flooding, managing waterway elevations, and keeping operations moving at its seven treatment plants. The MWRD treats an average of 1.47 billion gallons of wastewater per day, but that number can soar above 2 billion with intensive rainstorms. After consecutive days of rain, there is less capacity for the MWRD to hold and treat the additional water. Learn more about Combined Sewer Overflow prevention here: https://lnkd.in/deZqJk2. Hydrojetting is a method of cleaning and maintaining pipes using high-pressure water to remove debris, sediment, and other buildups. Here are the 4 main reasons you want to make sure you are scheduling regular hydro-jet services: 1. Preventing Clogs from Cold Weather Effects: Hydrojetting prevents winter temperature-related pipe blockages by breaking down and flushing out materials that can solidify in colder water. 2. Clearing Debris from Storms and Heavy Rain: Heavy rain and storms during Florida winters can lead to debris accumulation in sewer systems. Hydrojetting clears these obstructions, preventing potential flooding. 3. Maintaining Sewer System Efficiency: Regular hydrojetting as part of winter maintenance prevents blockages and backups, ensuring the optimal year-round operation of sewer systems. 4. Addressing Potential Tree Root Intrusions: Hydrojetting is effective in removing and preventing tree root intrusions into sewer lines, reducing the risk of disruptions during winter months. Hydrojetting is crucial for Florida's winter maintenance, addressing challenges like temperature-related clogs, storm debris, and tree root intrusions. My country and several neighbors are currently experiencing a severe flood. My family and I are safe, but my heart goes out to those who are going through a tremendous life tragedy and to those who are working day and night to minimize this tragedy. Since the last such flood in 1997, much has been done in terms of river infrastructure and beyond. Now is the time to consider whether what has been done was sufficient, appropriate, and what else needs to be done to prevent such events. Of course, we cannot completely eliminate the flood risk, but we can certainly do much more to make floods less devastating in their effects. A wise approach to river infrastructure design, smart stormwater management, monitoring and proper maintenance of existing water management facilities, protection of natural floodplains, and many other issues. All of this is increasingly being discussed and implemented, but perhaps too slowly. We will know the answer in a few days when the water recedes.

Imagine turning up on Monday to find a pond for an office.💦 Large amounts of rain in January cause a lot of issues for our clients. Up and down the country we have been helping clients with #flooddamage. 🔍 In cases like this, a thorough assessment of the extent of the flood damage is needed. 📦We need to work closely with clients to coordinate the relocation of salvageable equipment and documents to safe areas. As well as the water removal and #decontamination we need to use a professional #humidification system to speed up the drying process and prevent secondary issues like mold growth. This process can take a couple of weeks. Sometimes longer if there are old wooden framed doorway's and skirting. (The case with a client in Oxford) Responding to flooding requires a swift and strategic approach to ensure we can minimise downtime for businesses. ⏰
