Social enterprise Places for People has acquired a site for an affordable housing development in Langley Mill, #Derbyshire. Affordable housing providers Places for People is collaborating with Derby-based developer Wheeldon Brothers to build 109 mixed-tenure homes in the village of #LangleyMill. Designed as a mix of semi-detached, terraced and detached properties, each home will have two car parking spaces. Phased construction is scheduled to begin in April 2025 and the sales launch planned for early 2026. Places for People regional managing director Nilam Buchanan said: “This development represents an important opportunity to provide high quality, affordable homes for the Langley Mill area, enhancing its appeal as a desirable place to live. With shared ownership making new-build homes more accessible, and the combination of high-quality design and excellent connectivity, the scheme promises to appeal to a diverse range of residents, contributing to a thriving and inclusive community. Thanks to our successful collaboration with #WheeldonBrothers, we are pleased to address the demand for new housing in this location and we are actively seeking further development sites in the #EastMidlands.” The Section 106 agreement with the local planning authority includes funding for Derbyshire #WildlifeTrustprojects, as well for local healthcare and primary school facilities.

The City of Winnipeg has introduced a plan that would require developers to hand over 8% of their land when undertaking large-scale residential redevelopment projects, reported the Winnipeg Sun. "The purpose is to create privately owned but publicly accessible green spaces, such as parks, plazas, or community gardens. This is framed as a way to increase green space and reduce city maintenance costs. It appears to be a well-intentioned move to boost the city’s biodiversity and offer more public spaces. The first project in the massive mixed-use Bayfront development on the Hackensack River in Jersey City is the latest to receive #incentives from NJEDA's Aspire program. 🌟 Successful Presentation at Hutton Cranswick Parish Council 🌟 Last night, we had the pleasure of presenting our proposed Passive House Development for Hutton Cranswick to the Parish Council. The session was incredibly engaging, with thoughtful questions and constructive feedback from the attendees. Key topics of discussion included: ▪️ Affordable Housing: Addressing the need for accessible, sustainable homes for all. ▪️ Housing for New Families: The potential to meet the housing needs of young families in the area. ▪️ Sustainable Design: Highlighting the energy efficiency and low-carbon benefits of Passive House standards. ▪️ Pricing: Ensuring the final properties are competitively priced for the market. 🏡 One important issue raised was the plot’s location outside the current development boundaries for Hutton Cranswick - The proposed development, while outside the current village development boundary, aligns with the Government's commitment to addressing the national housing shortage by delivering high-quality, sustainable homes. With a focus on energy efficiency and environmental responsibility, this project supports the push for more housing in rural areas, ensuring communities like Hutton Cranswick can grow sustainably and attract new families. We also discussed accessibility to the village, and we’re pleased to share our commitment to working with the Highways Agency to create a new footpath and cycle path connecting the development to the village, just 130 meters away. The next steps? We’re moving forward with the pre-planning application and look forward to collaborating with stakeholders to bring this exciting project to life. The Government’s housing and regeneration agency, Homes England, has approved a £124 million funding package to unlock more homes and deliver new state-of-the-art infrastructure at #BarkingRiverside in #eastLondon. Barking Riverside, a 443-acre brownfield site formerly occupied by #Barking #PowerStation, is one of Europe’s largest placemaking projects. Upon completion the new mixed-use development will provide affordable family homes, enhanced green spaces, 7 new schools and better access to the #RiverThames, as well as a significant amount of retail, employment and community space. Country park and 130 homes proposed for Hampshire site 🏘️🤔 Bargate Homes Ltd has submitted an outline planning application for a new country park and 130 homes on a site at Overton in Hampshire. If approved, the country park would take up more than half of the 19-hectare site. Located west of Sapley Lane, the proposed housing development would create 130 mixed-tenure new homes with 40 per cent allocated for affordable housing. They would be delivered by VIVID – the parent company of Bargate Homes. The 15-hectare country park is set to be a multifunctional public green space. It would support a range of activities, including natural play areas for young children, and seating areas. New planting of native trees and shrubs is proposed, as well as the rewilding of areas to promote and enhance local biodiversity.
