This is a great application of GIS for the City of Mesa Planning Department!
I love this story from the City of Mesa's Planning Department. This is such an innovative use of #GIS for transit-oriented development, public engagement, and monitoring ongoing and future developments in one of the fastest growing areas in the country. I am excited to share a project from my Advanced GIS Applications class last semester! I conducted a New Park Location Suitability Assessment for Chicago, IL, to identify optimal locations for new parks. Utilizing ArcGIS Pro, I analyzed various factors such as current park distribution, thermal radiation, and accessibility to public transit. The project aimed to enhance urban planning by identifying areas that would benefit most from new green spaces, thereby reducing the Urban Heat Island effect and improving community well-being. Key Findings: -Cluster Analysis revealed park distribution patterns. -Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) showed a significant relationship between park land cover and reduced thermal radiation. -Suitability Assessment identified the top 5 locations for new parks, benefiting over 8,000 residents. This project deepened my understanding of urban planning and GIS applications in environmental sustainability. I’m excited to apply these skills to real-world projects! Check out the detailed poster for more insights! 📊🌳 #GIS #UrbanPlanning #EnvironmentalSustainability #DataAnalysis #ArcGIS

"Mapping Urban Transformation: Land Cover Change in Phoenix (2008-2019) 🛰️📈 Leveraging GIS and the National Land Cover Database (NLCD), I analyzed urban expansion in Phoenix over an 11-year period. This map visually illustrates the transition of developed areas: 2008 (Orange/Red): Representing earlier development patterns. 2019 (Blue): Highlighting rapid urbanization and land transformation. 🔍 Key Insights: ✅ Phoenix leads the way with 6,679 new development units, covering 22 million square feet – a clear sign of rapid urbanization. ✅ The shift from low-intensity areas (yellow/orange) to high-intensity development (blue) reveals increasing urban density and infrastructure expansion. ✅ Other areas like Cave Creek and Tolleson also reflect notable growth, showcasing regional development trends. 📊 Tools Used: ArcGIS Pro 🗂️ Data Source: Multi-Resolution Land Characteristics (MRLC) consortium (2008 & 2019) #SpatialAnalysis #ArcGIS #RemoteSensing #GeospatialInsights

Data, analysis and storytelling were the themes of a collaborative presentation by myself and Ben Blowers to the LDN Collective. In urban development, where things are, where things need to be and being able to communicate this effectively are critical factors in making informed decisions that lead to sustainable outcomes. Please take a minute to read this blog prepared by Max Farrell to find out more. The engagement and resulting ideas has been fantastic so thank you for the opportunity. #gis, #geospatial #data #digital #placemaking #masterplanning #transportplanning
I very much enjoyed presenting a brief GIS offering to the LDN Collective with Brian Norman last week. 10 minutes were allocated in the jam packed agenda, although we overran because of all the questions and engagement from attendees (surely a good sign)! The presentation has been converted into a wonderful blog article by Max Farrell if anyone would like to read it. #gis #geospatial #data #architecture #planners #placemaking #masterplanning https://lnkd.in/eTGJMZBP
