One of my favorite trends in this new wave of Defense Services is the transparent and value-focused relationships between industry and government technologists. Industry solution providers feel more empowered than ever to provide recommendations that may conflict with originally designed strategies, and that's a good thing. This week, during an enterprise Sprint Session for one of the product lines I'm helping to steer, I brought up a risk with a pretty “loaded” recommendation. The response from my stakeholder was incredible: "I just want it to be successful, okay? Do what you need to do to achieve operational adoption." Within reason, it was an empowering message to deprioritize any "box-checks" or nonsensical tasks; it was a license to build quickly while eliminating any wasteful activities. It was powerful. Rather than placating high-risk requirements, modern solution providers should feel comfortable suggesting uncomfortable "program pivots" that aim to protect federal investments and maximize the likelihood that warfighters receive the capabilities they need. This is what truly collaborative and honest partnerships look like. #innovation #defense #empowerment
