Regular maintenance for steam and hot water boilers is essential for peak efficiency and to prevent corrosion. Neglecting maintenance can reduce the system's lifespan and lead to costly repairs, but investing in annual maintenance services can extend the life of the heating system and help defer major costs. Oatey Technical Applications Manager Sean Comerford sat down with Engineered Systems Magazine to review some best practices to achieve peak efficiency and extend equipment lifespan in your hydronic heating systems.

We continue to look at the issues surrounding duct leakage and how you can take steps to prevent this happening. Other precautions you can take when selecting ducting is to ensure your ducting system has undergone comprehensive testing and received EuroVent Certification. Cost-effectiveness is also an important consideration as some people are led to believe that implementing airtight ductwork systems will lead to increased costs. However, by eliminating duct leakage and improving energy efficiency, it can prove to be a wise and sensible choice by installers which will pay off. 5 Tips if your Air Conditioning System is leaking water? 1️⃣ Switch it Off - First of all to stop the leak switch it off. By switching off the system you will stop it producing condensate and the leak should eventually stop. 2️⃣ Check the drain - If the system is on a gravity drain then the likely cause is the drain is blocked with slime/algae growth. You can unclog the drain line by removing the debris with a wet vac at the outlet. If that doesn’t work, call your service provider who can assist. 3️⃣ Check the condensate pump - If a condensate pump is fitted is it running? If a tank pump is fitted is the water overflowing from the sump. Call your service provider to replace. 4️⃣ Check the filters - A heavily blocked filter can cause your A/C system to ice up and leak. 5️⃣ Check the insulation - Is the condensate leak coming from the pipework, check for gaps in the insulation and make good.
