Employers across all industries are increasingly seeking diverse perspectives and ideas to grow their businesses. In particular, they want to hear voices from groups that have traditionally not been heard, and this means that women’s voices are now being heard in construction. Women bring different ideas, new approaches, and new, bright energy to construction. Their different point-of-view and backgrounds adds knowledge that was previously untapped, growing the potential of the industry. COVE is currently establishing initiatives to increase the number of women in construction and to make the industry more inclusive. It’s work worth doing to improve construction work for everyone. Here is a recent blog explaining why there has been an absence of women in construction in the past and what can be done about it. https://lnkd.in/gBZ7AMxT

Happy Women in Construction (WIC) Week. Though we know women make an impact every day, Women’s History Month and events like WIC week bring into focus the importance of women’s representation in all fields. Though women only make up 10.8% of construction workers in the U.S., they continue to break barriers and pave their way in an industry dominated by men. According to a 2023 BLS report, the numbers are inching upwards, with the rate of women in construction in the United States growing by 2% since 2010 - plenty of room to grow. As someone focused on sustainability for the built environment, I get to work with phenomenal facility and construction managers. And at Northwestern Mutual, that includes exceptional women like Tracy Lutterman who was recently named Construction Manager of the Year, Julie Wood (pictured here) and Tara Sherry - all who contribute to building a world-class campus experience. I’ve been blown away by their savvy and commitment, not only to their craft but to bringing more women into the field. Happy Women in Construction week to my wonderful colleagues and a special shout out to those who are building more than buildings. #sustainablebuilding #sustainabledesign #sustainability #womeninconstruction #womeninconstructionweek #equitydiversityinclusion

Women in Construction: Breaking New Ground It's inspiring to see more and more women stepping into the world of construction—an industry that's been male-dominated for so long. Today, women make up nearly 14% of the construction workforce in the U.S., and the impact is undeniable. Whether they’re managing projects, swinging hammers, or leading teams, women are proving that construction is about much more than just physical strength. It’s about creativity, resilience, and bringing new perspectives to the table. And let's be honest—the industry is better for it! But we still have a ways to go. Creating more inclusive opportunities and supporting women as they rise in this field is essential. Imagine what we could build if we truly embraced diversity at every level. To all the incredible women out there making their mark in construction—you’re not just building structures; you’re building the future. And that’s something worth celebrating. Let’s keep pushing for a world where women in construction isn’t just a trend but the norm. #WomenInConstruction #BreakingBarriers #DiversityInConstruction #EmpowerWomen #BuildTheFuture

As we celebrate Women in Construction Week, we want to emphasize the importance of every role women play in this industry. One such trailblazer is our very own Judy Dusk, whose role as a project coordinator ensures that all labor forces are paid correctly and all contractors have the necessary insurance for each project.🚧👷♀️ Her role goes beyond administration; it's a testament to the integrity and fairness that defines our industry. She says, "My role as a woman in construction is not just vital but transformative. I ensure that everyone on our team receives their rightful pay and that the proper insurance backs our projects. But more than that, I am part of a paradigm shift, proving every day that construction is no longer only a man's world." Indeed, her work echoes research showing that women bring efficiency, analytical thinking, and a range of skills that enrich the construction industry. And it's not just about gender diversity; companies with women in leadership roles often report higher levels of employee satisfaction, lower turnover rates, and better project outcomes. So here's to Judy and all the women breaking barriers, challenging norms, and building a better world. Your contributions are not just constructing buildings; they're reshaping an industry. Stay tuned as we continue to spotlight more remarkable women during #WomenInConstructionWeek! #UJAMAAConstruction #BuildingCommunity #WomenInConstruction #TheUJAMAAWay
