I spoke yesterday to Mitchell Hartman from Marketplace Morning Report about the looming TikTok ban and the lack of reasonable alternatives for TikTok's 170 million U.S. users. The interview was featured on NPR this morning. As I said there, TikTok has created a user experience that will be hard to replace, though if it disappears many U.S. competitors are likely to try. https://lnkd.in/dTJ_N2tk

Though I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet, TikTok is by far my favorite platform primarily because it provides users with an interruption-free(ish) scrolling experience. Facebook and, slowly, Instagram are overtaken by paid content, AI-generated content, and (most importantly) content I never opted into seeing. TikTok's algorithm walks the very fine line between advertising and not making you too fatigued to leave the platform. I should know—my screen time on their app alone averages 3 hours per day. And that's what social media professionals and content creators are so concerned about. Since ByteDance has repeated over and over that they will NOT sell their algorithm, the magic of their platform will be lost without it. #TikTokBan #SocialMediaMarketing
