Accelerating meat production with a focus on safety and data! The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended permission for six pork plants to operate at increased speeds for another 90 days. This decision is a lifeline for major industry players like Tyson Foods and JBS SA, as well as the farmers grappling with financial challenges. However, it's not just about speed; ensuring worker safety and gathering valuable data are paramount. With 40% of the U.S.'s hog population residing within 100 miles of these facilities, faster processing could lead to a more reliable pork supply and price stability. 🥓🏭 #USDA #MeatProcessing #AgriculturalEconomy

Dairy cattle are a significant part of the beef industry, and to encourage further collaboration between beef and dairy, the CBB has launched a new Dairy Task Force. This group will research the impact of the growing "beef-on-dairy" trend, including how dairies market their calves and how this may affect Beef Checkoff assessments. They'll also brainstorm ideas for improving communications with dairy producers about the Beef Checkoff program. john snell - spot on. "Sales increase to KSh341" (that's US$2.22/kg) - that's an all-auction average and ignores the 45% of auction lots, of mostly West of Rift, tea going unsold. Not to mention incurring warehouse and finance costs - all at the expense of KTDA farmers. There are 125,000 tonnes of unsold tea right now thanks to major export markets in financial chaos or losing interest in Kenyan tea (Pak/Egypt/Russia/Sudan/UK) and ever-increasing production completely out of step with global demand. Also note that the Kenyan export price has dropped in the last year (YTD 2022/2023 comparison) by 25usc/kg. In 2010 that number was another 30usc/kg higher than in 2022 and has since been on a downward trend. GoK are basically subsidizing farmers through bonuses/fertilizer subsidies to keep producing tea, all which is financed by central bank which in turn is financed by export proceeds of....er.... tea. Export proceeds are being driven by higher production at the expense of US$ prices. As we are maybe seeing, if you do not sell that produce, but continue to pay farmers, eventually your revenue stream declines to the point it will outweigh those resources being used to pay farmers. For how long can this shell-game continue?
https://lnkd.in/g_gZArgm Sick and tired of posting on this subject BUT lethargy to the plight of farmers is too dangerous to entertain. what is KTDA thinking "...to motivate farmers to increase production." WAKE UP!!!

Biden Admin Looks to Lower Food Prices by Tackling Concentration in The Meat Industry. The Biden administration is taking a stand to lower consumer food prices by addressing corporate consolidation in the meat industry. The USDA has unveiled a final rule under the Packers and Stockyards Act, prohibiting retaliatory practices against livestock producers and discriminatory contracts with meat giants like Tyson and Cargill. These new standards aim to promote competition and economic opportunity for producers and growers, ultimately benefiting consumers and the industry as a whole.
