The difference between a #medical representative and an MSL/RMA. I've been asked this repeatedly. Let's get into it. - As an MSL your role is non promotional whereas the role of a medical rep is promotional. This is the biggest difference. That means you don't talk about cost or demand a prescription from the KOL. - Med rep's role is to create brand awareness, drive sales. Your responsibility as an MSL is to share scientific data and gather insights from the HCP. - A medical rep's target audience ranges from Doctors, pharmacists to hospital staff. As an MSL your interactions will be limited to senior KOLs or your therapy area. - For a healthcare organisation, the RMA/MSL team is utmost important since it's their responsibility to build trust with the KOL and align the HCP's medical beliefs with those of the organisation. Medical focuses on the long term vision. Med reps who belong to the sales vertical are the ones who focus on the present. They bring the money that feeds the organisation. Let's look at the simarities- Both need to have excellent communication skills. Both need to strengthen relationships with KOLs Both work in accordance with the organisation's larger agenda. When an #MSL walks into a meeting with a KOL or a sales rep walks into a meeting with a KOL, what does the KOL see? Probably just a representative of the company. Does educating on the difference between the two roles make sense from the customer's perspective? What do you think? IMO, no. They probably don't care.
