#mnd Connect changes... #MNDConnect is changing to allow the helpline to provide better support to more people affected by MND. From Monday 4 March, the phone lines will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm. Calls will be answered by an automated system which will help quickly direct calls to a person who has the specialist knowledge they need. The service was launched by a group of volunteers in 1997 and the first staff were recruited in 2002. Since then, there has been little change to the way the service operates. The changes, being introduced following a thorough review, will ensure we can answer more calls and provide the very best service, including to people who are newly diagnosed with MND. Emails will continue to be answered daily. The changes are being introduced on a six-month trial basis with results being monitored to ensure they are delivering the improvements we expect.

The #NCDES call center is at a staff training today and unavailable to take calls. Quick tips: Thursdays & Fridays are when our call center receives lower call volume than earlier in the week. Likewise, average hold times are less on those days. #unemployment

Heading to Boston for #IACP2024 where I’ll be discussing the role Bias By-Proxy plays in 911 call centers and public safety outcomes. Join Brian Manley Nicola "Dr. Nikki" Smith-Kea, PhD Jeff Spivey and me for an in depth and frank discussion on this critical topic. See you at IACP Conference 2024 Boston When Does Bias Begin? Identifying and Addressing Bias in the Emergency Call Center Location : 204AB Date : Sunday, Oct 20 12:30 PM Police officers are universally known as first responders. However, in most cases, the first person contacted in an emergency is a police telecommunicator. This person is responsible for gathering as much information as possible and passing it along to the dispatcher so an officer can be sent to the call. A lot has been said about police officer bias, but what if that bias starts much earlier than when the officer arrives? What influence does the caller’s location, dialect, and emotional state have on the telecommunicator’s perception? This session will explore the effect a telecommunicator can have in setting the stage for how an encounter will play out once a police officer arrives on scene and how, with recognition and training, these encounters can end more favorably. https://lnkd.in/gtFisMVe
