Since our Polarisation Tracker began in 2021, some key themes have emerged: - A distrust of elites and institutions across the UK population - The emergence of Net Zero as a focal point for elite distrust - The gradually declining power of Brexit as a source of polarisation Wave 8 of our Polarisation Tracker is the first to be conducted during a Labour government. The latest Eurobarometer shows that almost 8 out of 10 Europeans agree that EU climate targets will spur new jobs and attract investments in the clean energy sector. The survey also reports that almost 7 out of 10 Europeans believe EU policies will reduce dependence on energy imports. Looking ahead: ➡️ 77% say the EU should have a stronger role in coordinating energy matters. ➡️ 69% think our policies will ensure reduced energy bills for households and businesses ➡️ 53% believe the EU should encourage its countries to fight energy poverty. These findings are well reflected in the ambition of the new Commission for 2024-2029, as set out in President von der Leyen’s Political Guidelines.

1. Turning off lights to protect night sky vs keeping them on to support business and economy 2. Building modern infrastructure vs not acquiring the land in overly crowded places 3. Protection of environment vs creation of jobs by promoting mines and industries 4. Implementing stricter immigration policies to protect national security vs allowing open borders to foster diversity and economic growth. 5. Investing in renewable energy sources to combat climate change vs relying on fossil fuels to meet current energy demands. 6. Enforcing strict regulations on businesses to protect consumer rights vs allowing laissez-faire economics to promote innovation. 7. Preserving cultural heritage sites vs developing them for tourism to boost local economies. 8. Implementing universal basic income to address poverty vs encouraging entrepreneurship and self-reliance to drive economic growth. 9. To reduce tax vs supporting the people through subsidies. These conflicting ideas highlight the trade-offs and dilemmas that often arise when making decisions that impact society, the environment, and the economy. In the world full of conflicting ideas, how to strike a balance? #tradeoffs #policy #decisionmaking #ideas

It is the first day of the European Elections - and we would like to address something that needs to be at the heart of the next EU strategic agenda: #sufficiency The EU institutions have tried to overcome several crises in recent years - surges in the cost of living, growing inequality of wealth and income, the unprecedented consequences of climate change - without seriously considering lowering Europe's resource use. By targeting the most unsustainable consumption patterns in particular, sufficiency restores demand to levels that respect planetary boundaries, ensuring that all can meet their fundamental needs. Here are four more reasons why sufficiency is the key to a more resilient Europe https://lnkd.in/ePFvdmSk POLIS Network, Amigos de la Tierra, Seas At Risk #UseYourVote
