Climate justice is gender justice ✊ Existing inequalities mean that women are up to 14 times more likely to die in climate-related disasters. Tides Foundation launched WE LEAD, the Women’s Environmental Leadership Fund, three years ago to elevate, center, and resource women’s grassroots leadership on the frontlines of climate disruption in the United States. WE LEAD promotes a shift in power to those making an impact on the ground, namely Black women, women of color, Indigenous women, and other underrepresented genders taking on big polluters with local, community-based action. Since launching WE LEAD, we’ve made grants totaling close to $5 million to grantees like New Voices for Reproductive Justice, El Departamento de la Comida, Bayou City Waterkeeper, Women's Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) International, and many more on the vanguard of the climate movement—working to ensure that they have what they need to pave the way for a new era of social and environmental justice.
