A valid in-state teaching certificate or waiver required. Previous teaching or Job Corps experience preferred. Qualifications Follows all integrity guidelines and procedures and ensures no manipulation of student data. Ensures Center meets or exceeds DOL/Company performance goals. Responsible to provide students with academic training leading to GED/HSD completion and improved literacy and numeracy skills. Provides students with comprehensive and individualized case management that ensures student progress, achievement and completion of the Job Corps program. Ensures classroom is well organized and conducive to student learning. Holds students accountable for following Center's dress code/behavioral standards of conduct. Produces quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely and accurate manner. Maintains appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards. Plans, prioritizes and organizes assignments to meet established goals and deadlines. Understands and applies job knowledge to effectively complete all required job responsibilities. Proactively maintains the skills required to perform job duties. Mentors, monitors and models the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH. Provides high-quality supervision and management for the student population. Takes swift and appropriate action and positively influences student behavior. Shows respect and courtesy to students and holds them accountable for their actions and behavior. Provides quality programs and services for students and ensures that quality is maintained and student needs are met. Pursues improvement and enhancement of programs and services. Exchanges ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner and contributes meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge. Provides quality and timely information to DOL/Company when requested. Effectively articulates thoughts and ideas. Identifies problems, analyzes causes and evaluates appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending actions. Follows up to ensure prompt/appropriate action is taken and that problems are in fact corrected. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Over the past few months, our team at Belouga asked this question to 324 Grade 2/3 students to deepen learning experiences and provide pathways to career interests. The results: Coding: 76% expressed a keen interest in learning computer science and designing video games. Fitness: 73% are curious about careers as personal trainers, sports coaches, and staying physically fit. The Arts: 72% want to explore writing books, pursuing artistic endeavors, and acting. Medical: 55% are eager to understand how dentist offices and hospitals operate, their technology, and the experiences of nurses and doctors. Housing: 54% expressed interest in learning home construction, decoration, and the real estate process. Military: 51% are curious about military training experiences and aviation. Law: 26% want insights into what being in a court of law is like. The takeaway? These insights into the career aspirations of Grade 2/3 students not only reflect their interests but also underscore the influential roles that society, community, and media play in shaping these preferences. The prominence of coding, fitness, and the arts might indicate the digital age's impact, with technological advancements and media exposure playing crucial roles. Similarly, the interest in medical professions may be influenced by societal emphasis on health and the heroic narratives portrayed in media over the past few years. As educators and stakeholders, recognizing these influences is paramount for fostering an educational environment that aligns with students' aspirations while addressing the broader societal and community contexts shaping their dreams. #students #jobs #k12 #school #education

THE MENACE OF CONTRACTUAL TEACHING JOBS In recent years, many educational institutions have adopted a practice of offering short-term contracts to teachers, with the possibility of extension or termination. Human Resources departments often justify this approach, claiming it motivates teachers to perform better to secure extensions while being cost-effective for the institution. However, this strategy frequently proves more detrimental than beneficial to the educational ecosystem. It's human nature to prioritize personal safety, property, and future security. When teachers face uncertainty about their future at an institution, their motivation to contribute positively inevitably diminishes. This insecurity undermines their sense of ownership and dedication to the institution, ultimately compromising the quality of teaching and student learning. In such precarious situations, teachers often find themselves using the school's resources while constantly searching for more stable employment opportunities, driven by the constant fear of joblessness. The pervasive uncertainty affects the entire discourse and atmosphere within the school. The staff room, once a hub of pedagogical discussions and collaborative planning, becomes a breeding ground for anxiety. Instead of focusing on student well-being and institutional growth, conversations invariably revolve around job insecurity, contract renewals and the pursuit of better opportunities elsewhere. This shift in focus detracts from the primary mission of education and creates a tense, unproductive environment. The HR departments and management need to recognize and respect the unique dynamics of educational institutions. Unlike factories where tasks are performed mechanically, schools are complex ecosystems involving human interactions and development. The future of young students is at stake, and the quality of their education hinges on the dedication and stability of their teachers. Educators can only teach with genuine motivation when they are compensated fairly and equitably and assured of job stability without the constant threat of contract non-renewal looming over them. To foster a productive and positive educational environment, it's crucial to offer teachers the stability and security they need. This allows them to fully commit to their roles, focus on the success of their students, and contribute to the long-term growth of the institution. By prioritizing teacher well-being and job security, educational institutions can create a more engaged, motivated, and effective teaching force, ultimately benefiting the students and the broader educational community.
