Looking for work? Alabama has the jobs! Alabama has recently been dubbed the “Workforce Engine of the Southeast”. But there’s one problem: Alabama does not have enough identified skilled workers to fill these open positions. In fact, 45% of able-bodied Alabamians are inactive in the local workforce. Government officials have taken notice and are taking action with the new Working for Alabama legislative bill, constructed to transform and scale the workforce economy in the state. The Goal: Establish clear pathways to meaningful careers and work for Alabamians and help employers retain talent, improving the labor force participation rate. The How: Encourage public-private partnerships between industries and the education system, and bridge resources via solutions like the Alabama Talent Triad that connects employers to skilled workers and provides learning resources to those looking to upskill or further their education, making them more marketable in the job market. Learn more about the tools and resources offered by the Alabama Talent Triad: https://lnkd.in/e6736Dm5

Mental Health, Peer Support, Homelessness, and Employment with a little Earl Grey Tea and Motorsports on the side.
Waterloo Region has one of the toughest part-time labour markets in the country presently for job seekers. The challenge is that the market is flooded with part-time job seekers. Why? While not the definitive answer, Conestoga College has the highest number of International Students in the country. (Source: Federal Government, number of Student permits issues by educational institution) Employers right now will tell you it’s not uncommon to receive over 500 applications in response to 1 open part-time job posting. It’s a really difficult challenge for employment services professionals to respond to.

Here's an update for #WhatsHappeningWednesday that makes us go wow! From My #Oregon News, https://www.myoregon.gov/ is this feature on "Work Support on Wheels." Here's an excerpt from the article written by Laura Eidam: "Beginning this spring, job seekers, students, and workers throughout Central Oregon can expect WorkSource Oregon services to come to them, thanks to the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council’s new mobile unit. This one-of-a-kind workforce center is made possible through support from Future Ready Oregon. Specifically, a 2022 Workforce Ready Grant from the HECC (Higher Education Coordinating Commission) funded the purchase of the van, and Prosperity 10,000 support from East Cascades Works—the region’s local workforce board—is funding the planning, implementation, and hiring of a mobile employment counselor. The Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council (COIC) serves Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson Counties. That’s about 600 miles of open road. The region’s WorkSource Oregon centers in Bend and Redmond can be challenging for residents in the surrounding communities to visit. “In some cases it can be a 60-70 mile round-trip to get to these centers,” says COIC Adult Programs Manager Dana Dunlap. “For someone with a low income—or no income, or who is waiting for unemployment benefits—that is a significant expense.”" The article goes on to state that: "Designing the mobile unit highlighted the importance of partnering with community members and engaging in collaborative brainstorming to ensure the van is efficient, reliable, and can be used to serve a maximum number of community members." We look forward to the roll out of this wonderful initiative, as we appreciate all the partnerships that make #WorkforceDevelopment and #CommunityEngagement projects thrive! #PartnershipsMatter

Hello,Hi, Hola, A note to employers and recruiters. There is not a single, solitary receptionist or administrative assistant position that requires a Master's and 10+ years of experience. Especially when you're offering $19.50/hr. Absolutely. Not. I've been job hunting for over a year and have sent out 2,000+ applications. So I can say with authority that y'all are requiring advanced qualifications for entry level positions to your own detriment. I've watched full time admin positions sit unfilled, then relisted by recruitment agencies, relisted yet again as part time gigs and then start the cycle all over again. You cannot expect people with advanced degrees to work for slightly better than minimum wage in major cities like LA and New York. Additionally, you're boxing out excellent workers who didn't get the opportunity to attend college, but who are dynamite workers. Be realistic. If you think a degree of some sort is truly required to be a receptionist or administrative assistant, then a GED should more than suffice. And 10+ years experience is a bad joke that y'all need to retire.
