The Your Shores program at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is helping Miami high school students from diverse backgrounds to become the next generation of marine scientists! “It’s hard for a lot of students to see themselves in the marine science field and in science in general," explains Giselle Garcia, project director for the Upward Bound Math and Science program. “It’s not just because most scientists don't look like them or come from similar backgrounds, but because there are so many barriers.” The Your Shores program seeks to fix that. The program provides students with dive certifications, habitat restoration and research experience, and college preparation. Students also get opportunities to participate in internships related to the field. We're proud to support the Your Shores program in lowering the barrier to entry for future marine scientists in Miami.
