#!/𝐛𝐢𝐧/𝐩𝐡𝐝 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 "#!" (𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐠) tells a system to execute a bash script, this line declares I'm executing my PhD journey! The Good news is that this is not intended to scare or bore you - just look more closely to the end. Here's a glimpse into my new operating system, just read the first 3 lines and move to line 15: "#!/𝘣𝘪𝘯/𝘱𝘩𝘥 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨: 𝘌𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘗𝘩𝘋 𝘮𝘰𝘥𝘦. 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 /𝘥𝘦𝘷/𝘯𝘶𝘭𝘭" 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 1 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘔𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 /𝘮𝘯𝘵/𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩..." 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 1 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘐𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺, 𝘤𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴..." 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘦; 𝘥𝘰 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴..." 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘞𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨... 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨..." 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘙𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴... 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴, 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘣𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨..." 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩... 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘱𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘳 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴..." 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘘𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴..." 𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘰 "𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘦..." 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 0.5 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 As you can see, I've mounted my brain to /mnt/research -line 4, set my coffee intake to infinite, and initiated the main research loop -line 6. One thing I forgot to include in the above bash is: " 𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐨 "𝐏𝐡𝐃.𝐞𝐱𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞: 𝟓 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 (𝐨𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬, 𝐥𝐨𝐥𝐬! 𝐧𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞)" " Of course, the while true; do list doesn't capture all I will be doing in this PhD journey, which is normal as contingencies and things I deliberately skipped will always come up. The journey ahead promises to be challenging, enlightening, and filled with growth opportunities. I'm absolutely delighted to start my PhD in Chemical Engineering University of Alabama Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. My aim is twofold: to learn the art of scientific research and to make contributions to my focus area in computational methods and catalysis. This will enable me to tackle part of the questions I have raised and contribute to the vision I outlined in my Statement of Purpose: "One visionary question I had always asked myself is, can getting a catalyst or material for a particular process be as easy as searching the internet? One could easily say that this is another Artificial Intelligence big idea. I don't want to just think this; I want to be actively involved in research to make this a reality during my Ph.D." I'm always grateful for the support of my mentors, colleagues, and loved ones as I embark on this adventure.

Words of wisdom for a resilient and successful life.
At the 2024 Commencement Ceremony, speaker Jerry Seinfeld urged graduates to navigate life with humor. "All of you here, without question, are the best of the best. Just don't lose your humor. It’s not an accessory. It's your Stanley Cup water bottle on the brutal, long hike of life," said Seinfeld. View the full commencement address: https://lnkd.in/eG-qtqeU

Great leaders love by amplifying greatness… Breaking down stereotypes, perpetuating truth, responding with excellence when faced with negativity, disrespect and false narratives. Appreciate you sharing Brandon Young, PMP #leadership #greatleaders #diversityandinclusion
Just wrapped up the Omega Psi Phi 84th Grand Conclave and came across a thought-provoking video shared by one of my fraternity brothers. It offers valuable perspective on diversity and the various jobs/roles played in America. Let’s not perpetuate stereotypes. #AmericanJobs #OmegaPsiPhi #DiversityAndInclusion #AmericaRoles

John Sundholm you nailed it. The frustration around Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) is real, and your video hit a nerve with so many job seekers for a reason—it validates everything they are experiencing, what we and others have been talking about for years. I thought it would be interesting to share what we have learned over 5 years of building Intry, regarding the "why" it's happening. Legacy Systems A lot of ATS tools still run on outdated frameworks (think MS-DOS level technology). They’re not built for the modern job market, so resumes with non-traditional formats, creative layouts, or certain key terms often don’t make it through. Qualified candidates get lost in translation. Bias in the Algorithms ATS algorithms filter based on keywords and qualifications, but the criteria are often narrowly defined. If the terms don’t align perfectly with what a recruiter is searching for, even qualified candidates might never get seen. That’s not about skills, it’s about language. Historical Data Problems Many ATS systems are built on old hiring data, so they often repeat past patterns—reinforcing biases and overlooking diverse candidates. The system works for those who "fit the mold," but for everyone else, it becomes a barrier. The good news is that there are tools that can help the job seeker get past many ATS systems. It isn’t about “gaming the system" it is about making sure the resumes aren’t lost before human eyes even have a chance to see them. Intry is just one of them. ATS aren't perfect as you talked about in your video, but understanding how they work gives job seekers an edge. It's not cheating—it's about being seen. You unintentionally validated everything we (Intry and others) have been saying and working to solve! So thank you! #ATS #JobSearch #CareerSolutions #IntryCareers #JobSeekerEmpowerment #CareerTech #OptimizeYourResume" https://lnkd.in/ggG-n6AZ
