Servers and bartenders make good salespeople. As I wrap up my 6th year in sales it has become crystal clear to me that my time in hospitality (20 years) has served me well in my sales career. Every night on the floor or behind the bar was a crash course in discovery calls, buying personas, navigating timelines, SOE, identifying stakeholders, creating ARR, avoiding churn, building referrals, processing ever-changing information, negotiating, and closing. It took me years to break out of hospitality because a lot of hiring managers didn't see the value in hospitality experience. I argue it's some of the best training I could've asked for. If someone doesn't have direct experience but has restaurant experience, give them a shot. They are highly trainable and adaptable and likely have all the skills you are looking for. Shout out to my hospitality friends as they finish another grueling holiday season. If you're looking for a different career path, sales is a great way to go. The job is very similar, albeit with less whiskey during the shift. ;)

It’s been a while since I started my role at L'etoile MV as a Fine Dining Server, but I wanted to share this update with everyone. Understanding how restaurants operate can be incredibly beneficial for sales jobs and successful endeavors in the business world. Adaptability and flexibility acquired from navigating the dynamic restaurant environment aid in excelling in meeting changing market dynamics and customer needs in sales roles.

As a motion graphics guy, it's been an interesting journey getting the hang of filming actual people and allowing organic interactions to unfold, instead of generating a tightly controlled visual experience - but I'm pleased to finally be able to present videos which someone could look at and say "You know, that looks pretty slick." At least, that's what I hope people are saying. That's not to say it's perfect - and as good as modern iPhones are, Cinematic Mode still has it's quirks and visual artifacts that quickly fall apart when viewed full screen. But for a quick and fast approximation of a "real" camera? It definitely does the job. This one was shot with two iPhones - one mounted and one handheld and a set of lapel mics. Tip for budding iPhone videographers: Don't shoot in HDR unless want to jump through a bunch of hoops to get it looking good. But if you do end up shooting in HDR and want to jump through these hoops (using DaVinci Resolve as my example workflow): when you bring your footage into Resolve, use a Colour Space Transform and choose Rec.2100 as your input space - and output to whatever you need (usually Rec.709) - and turn on Saturation Compression. #shotoniphone
