https://lnkd.in/gzHx3Tg8 Our customers really do some cool projects, problem no one knows since they are underground and out of site for the public in most instances. Our friends at Pacific Boring, Inc. highlight some of the cool work they do in the Western USA. Thanks for "Making Boring Great Again"

Don’t have a ‘nightmare’ and end up damaging cables or pipes that you have already excavated and exposed. This happens with alarming regularity when a service that has been identified and is in plain sight gets damaged. Be sure to have a spotter or standover in comms with the machine operator for any mechanical works near the services. Do not try to move or relocate cables or pipes, leave this to the network owner and never use them as a convenient step into or out of your excavation site as both actions are a common cause of damage. Discuss positions of exposed services in your daily prestart meetings. Provide a visual identity such as flags or signs to make these assets clearly identifiable above the ground to those working in the area. So don’t have a mare, get plans from beforeUdig and start your Safe Digging Journey. 🔗https://loom.ly/AEU6gNY #SafeDiggingMonth #beforeUdig #SafetyPractices #WorkSafe

The last thing a utility locator likes to hear on the other end of the phone is 'I’ve got an urgent job'. Sometimes this can’t be helped and they will usually do their best to move heaven and earth and race out to your site asap. But more often than not we hear stories of those last minute calls because the excavator didn’t plan ahead fully. Don’t leave it to the last minute to find out what cables and pipes might be onsite, plan for the jobs in the days and weeks ahead by making your beforeUdig enquiry, attending the site to walk it over and scope it out. Then make your preferred utility locator a very happy individual and call them well in advance. By completing these essential tasks as far ahead as possible you will greatly reduce the risk of hitting and damaging utility services on your work site. 🔗 Start your Safe Digging Journey Now: https://loom.ly/AEU6gNY #SafeDiggingMonth #beforeUdig #SafetyPractices #WorkSafe

This week's #WaterChampions are the business support team duo of Stacie Notick and Daisy Piedra Barrera. The pair help the Constructions Services Unit complete critical projects that allow Metropolitan to deliver reliable water to #SoCal. CSU consists of several teams of skilled professionals, including carpenters, welders, electricians, and crane and equipment operators. To maintain operational readiness, they perform a wide array of construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation tasks. These services depend on business transactions handled by Stacie and Daisy, which include the management of requisition submissions, drafting of vendor contracts, and providing budget insight for projects. Recently, Stacie and Daisy coordinated rental equipment, and provided personnel support and processing for key Metropolitan initiatives, including the Lake Mathews Dam repair, the Diemer Heli-hydrant project, and the Weymouth Water Quality Laboratory building electrical upgrade. #WorkerMonday

Over the years there have been many different iterations of rules, regulations and industry practices that determine the depth at which underground utility cables and pipes should be buried. With cables and pipes in the ground that may be up to 100 years old. So, it’s important not to assume that they are buried to current industry guidelines of typically 450mm or deeper depending on the utility type, i.e. gas, fibre, electricity etc. It is quite likely that one or more of the services below your feet are shallower than current regulations and practices. So whatever your job if you are breaking the surface of the ground make sure that you have implemented the same 5P’s of safe digging methodology to determine the presence of cables and pipes and their potential depth. 🔗 Check out our easy to read and free Safe Digging Guide here: https://loom.ly/cWiGQfw Always make it a YES and never a yeah nah and get plans from beforeUdig to start your safe digging journey. #SafeDiggingMonth #beforeUdig #SafetyPractices #WorkSafe

The cost of not having proper safety arrangements is always higher than the investment required to implement effective safety measures. We shall not forget the recent accident that occurred during an STS operation near Chattogram. We must learn from the mistakes and take steps to implement better safety practices and necessary regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.

To be Choice is to be excellent and international studies have shown that the most common times of day for damage to occur to a utility cable or pipe are late morning just before lunch break and later in the afternoon after 3 pm. This data indicates that it is likely that fatigue before lunch and increased pressure to finish the job for the day may play a part in an increase in damages during these time periods. So as we head into the warmer spring and summer months it's important to recognise that those of us on the tools need to take regular breaks, drink lots of water, eat well, slip slop slap with the sunblock, wear a hat and have somewhere cool and shaded to rest. So take breaks, don’t rush, be Choice and get plans from beforeUdig and start your Safe Digging Journey: https://loom.ly/AEU6gNY #SafeDiggingMonth #beforeUdig #SafetyPractices #WorkSafe
