Kudos to Aerospace Supply Chain Resilience TF for this effort on the #supplychain. I get that government has a role in solving these issues BUT.... "The Aerospace Supply Chain Resiliency Task Force issued its report, as requested by the U.S. Congress, finding "critical areas that can truly have an impact on the resiliency of the #supplychain, some of which were addressed in the latest FAA Reauthorization law, if it is properly implemented. Improving both certification and #workforcedevelopment, particularly as it pertains to having a #trained #workforce to issue new and amended certificates and licenses, would have a significant positive impact. Additionally, broad development and acceptance of the digitization of documentation for licensing and other applications, including #aircraftcertification, is urgently needed, not only for efficiently standardizing processes but for security. Having a reliable budget and funding process was also cited as important for the safety, efficiency and resilience of the #airtrafficcontrol system. There are many agencies, outside of the FAA, involved in #aerospace activities and these agencies must work to make industry more resilient to changes that impact critical resources in raw material, #manufacturing, components and assemblies." When it comes to #workforcedevelopment we've been at it for 30 years and billions of dollars invested by industry. You gotta ask what are we doing wrong that we haven't solved this yet? I also get giving federal agencies the resources needed would be a huge step since they have been sorely neglected in past decades in the name of small (read that purposefully dysfunctional) government. BUT...what can industry do if it came together to solve #workforcedevelopment issues. Industry is still working on its own needs instead of collaborating on creating a permanent #aviation aerospace pipeline K-Career + professional development." As always I'm impressed with what Washington aviation/aerospace groups can do when they work together as they did on the FAA Reauthorization. BUT.. why is it waiting for government? It can't fund the agencies but what else can it do to solve its #workforceproblems. Recently, MAA Chief Executive Andrew Mair hosted an industry update session which covered current trends in global #aviation and #aerospace, government support, and how this election year may impact the competitiveness of the industry. Some of the key headlines were… ✈️ The active commercial airline fleet is now around 30k globally. Airlines are actively pushing for more aircraft to boost their profitability and order books hit a peak of over 12 years at the end of 2023. During the session we covered the aircraft programme breakdowns, what is driving performance, the key challenges and future predictions. ✈️ The recovery of the aviation market has generated big increases in aftermarket work at the major engine makers which is good news for suppliers involved with MRO activity. During the session we highlighted the top challenges and opportunities in this area. ✈️ This year is set to be a big one for Farnborough Airshow and it’s not to be missed if you’re operating in the aerospace industry. We shared the latest news from the leading companies in the Midlands, insights into reorganisation activity and how opportunities are being created for suppliers. Plus, there were many more insights around the big engine makers; the supply chain; opportunities in sectors that are complementary to aerospace like #defence, #space and advanced air mobility; the importance of picking up the pace on sustainable technologies; and the need for greater government support for industrial strategy and innovation. We were delighted to receive so many comments after the session about how useful and informative members found it, with calls for more frequent online events like these. So, we will be holding another in July that will again be free for all members. We will announce the details soon. In this FlightGlobal interview with Guillaume Faury, the CEO of Airbus, he talks about the challenges facing the A400M military transport aircraft program. Key points from the article include: > The undelivered backlog of A400M orders has shrunk to 51 units due to a failure to secure additional volumes beyond 179 booked so far. > Faury says there are "prospects" for additional export deals, but stability in the programme is crucial to fulfill those orders. > Discussions continue with partner countries on future production rates and Airbus aims to find an equation that works financially for customers and itself. > The H225 heavy-twin helicopter has bounced back from a downturn, delivering around 100 units over five years and securing a 38-aircraft order from Germany's Federal Police. > Faury praises the work done by Airbus Helicopters to enhance the H225 product and sees potential for continued sales. > The helicopter business is fragmented, with diverse missions and customers, making it challenging to decide on future products. Faury talks about the need for sustainably, decarbonisation, and autonomy in helicopters. Airbus has set ambitious targets to reduce its carbon emissions and has been investing in research and development of new technologies such as electric and hybrid-electric propulsion, hydrogen fuel cells, and more efficient aircraft designs Additionally, the article touches on: * Guillaume Faury's personal connection to the H225 programme as its former chief engineer. * The CEO's passion for his work and willingness to serve beyond 2025 when his current contract ends. * His next mandate is up for renewal next year, and he is applying to keep working in this role beyond 2025. #Airbus
