These types of incidents are always troubling, even more so when the school employee carries out a mass casualty shooting or as in a case in Vietnam, when a school administrator threw battery acid on multiple of his coworkers. While, there are limits to reliability, there are preemployment screening and post-hire practices that can reduce the risk of violence by school employees. The severe challenges in recruiting and retaining high-quality school employees and the lack of proper consequences for violent behaviors of students in some schools and districts can also increase by staff and students. As with law enforcement personnel, these types of excessive force and in even rarer cases, assaultive behavior are atypical of how most personnel conduct themselves. As with medical doctors, lawyers, university faculty and many others in various professions, a very small percentage employees in any field are capable of extreme acts of violence. What is important is how organizations work to try to prevent them, how they prepare people to react to then should they occur, recovery strategies and how the organization handles these types of incidents. #schoolsafety #schoolbusviolence #schoolsecurity #schoolsuperintendents #sro
