Attracting new talent into the trades 🛠 has been a long hard battle. School systems told us for many years that there are better things to do than working with our hands, or getting them dirty. ⛑ At Matrix HR we have been working on professionalizing these jobs for 21 years and focus on continual improvement. 💯 It is up to everyone in the industry to make the conditions for these jobs more attractive but also to offer options so that people working in these roles are moving forward in their careers. Organizations like Women Building Futures, Trade Winds to Success Training Society Calgary Construction Association, and OpenCircle, to name a few, help us to offer opportunities and benefits to keep developing job skills. 👩🔧 How great is it to see someone achieve a Journey-person ticket, become a superintendent, start their own company or mentor people new to the industry? There are lots of great opportunities in the trades we need to make sure the message is getting out there. https://lnkd.in/g_35DHhX

Construction Crisis: Over 400,000 Britons Stuck in Renovation Limbo A new report by Fix Radio's national construction audit reveals a shocking reality: over 400,000 people in the UK have waited more than a year just to find a builder to begin work on their homes! This is on top of hundreds of thousands more facing similar delays for plumbers, electricians, and other trades. These delays are a symptom of a much larger problem - a crippling construction skills shortage. The industry needs an additional 225,000 skilled workers by 2027 just to keep up with growing demand. This deficit has a significant impact: 🙁 Frustration for homeowners - Dreams of renovations put on hold, with the stress and inconvenience of extended waiting periods. 🙁 Economic impact - Missed growth opportunities and potential for a £98 billion loss to the UK economy by 2030. What can be done? ✅ Investing in skills development - Encouraging more people to enter the construction trades through apprenticeships and training programs. ✅ Highlighting career opportunities - Promoting the diverse and rewarding career paths available in construction. ✅ Technological advancements - Embracing innovative construction methods and technologies to improve efficiency and productivity. Is your renovation project on hold due to the skills shortage? Share your thoughts in the comments! #construction #skillsshortage #constructionindustry #uk #renovation #apprenticeships #futureofwork #myhiltigb

Construction management consultant and writer. Sharing 30 years of construction management experience.
The construction industry is desperate for new recruits. Unfortunately there is a large dropout of apprentices. There are many reasons for this including some apprentices realizing the job is not the right fit for them, or is too hard work. Regrettably many employers treat apprentices poorly as in this article. Apprentices also leave because of low pay. But, unfortunately also employers don't adequately train and mentor their apprentices. Good apprentices are the next generation in the construction industry. We must train and look after our future generation and attract more to the industry. The conduct of some employers do untold damage to the future of the construction industry. What were your experiences as a young apprentice and what would you like to see change in the construction industry training. https://lnkd.in/g-fPxaUj #constructioncareers #constructiontraining #constructionjobs.

Embracing the Trades: Building a Foundation for Success In a world where traditional paths to success often revolve around obtaining a college degree, the trades sometimes take a backseat. However, it's time to shift the spotlight onto these invaluable professions and recognize their crucial importance in society. The trades encompass a wide range of professions, from carpentry and plumbing to electricians and mechanics. These skilled workers are the backbone of our infrastructure, responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining the structures and systems that we rely on every day. Without their expertise, our communities would grind to a halt. One of the most compelling reasons to embrace the trades is the abundance of opportunities they offer. As the baby boomer generation retires, there is a growing demand for skilled workers to fill their shoes. This demand far exceeds the current supply, creating a job market ripe with possibilities for those willing to learn a trade. Unlike some industries that may be subject to economic fluctuations, the need for tradespeople remains constant, providing stability and security in a rapidly changing world. Beyond financial rewards, the trades offer a sense of fulfillment that comes from working with one's hands and seeing tangible results. Whether it's constructing a building, fixing a leaky pipe, or troubleshooting electrical issues, tradespeople take pride in their ability to solve problems and make a difference in their communities. Their work is essential to maintaining the quality of life we often take for granted, and their contributions deserve to be celebrated and valued. In addition to the practical benefits, the trades also foster important skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork. Working in a hands-on environment encourages individuals to think outside the box and develop innovative solutions to complex problems. Collaboration is often key in the trades, as projects require coordination among various tradespeople to ensure success. These skills are not only valuable in the workplace but also in all aspects of life, contributing to personal growth and development. In conclusion, the trades play a vital role in society and offer countless opportunities for those willing to pursue them. By recognizing the importance of the trades and supporting initiatives that promote vocational education and apprenticeship programs, we can ensure a brighter future for generations to come. So let's celebrate the trades for the invaluable contributions they make and empower the next generation to build a foundation for success. #SkilledTrades #TradeSkills #Craftsmanship #TradeLife #SkilledWorkers #BlueCollarPride #HandsOnSkills #Tradespeople #TradeProfessionals #CraftingSuccess #SkilledLabor #HardWorkPaysOff #BuildingTrades #ToolsoftheTrade #Tradesmen #TradeSchool #SkilledTradeJobs

Employment shortages within the construction industry are the leading source of cost pressures and delays 💸⏰ As new projects are being rolled out throughout Australia that demand a massive workforce, we have to consider whether our tradies can actually handle the scale of these projects. The Government's promise to build 1.2 million new homes within well-located areas by 2029 is a pretty key example of the industry's demand right now. So, the government is rolling out plans to boost employment and get tradies skilled up and better qualified 👷♂️ • Funding for 5,000 places in pre-apprenticeship programs over 2 years from 2025 • RPL for people living in Australia on visas who have applicable construction skills under Australian codes and standards • RPL for those with comparable qualifications to Australia from overseas (e.g. The UK and France) • Fast-tracked practical tests for those with construction skills not recognised in Australia • Potential plan to offer financial incentives for companies to take on apprentices
