I'm extending my gratitude to Greg Sullivan, the current EVP with Vail Resorts despite never having met him in person. Over a decade ago, during my interviews with Greg when he was leading Crocs, he emphasized the importance of a particular book. Throughout our conversations, he asked me to read this book, which he required new leaders to read before joining the team. I admire Greg's dedication to the hiring process. Even as the SVP of Global Business Transformation, he prioritized Human Capital and recognized the effort required to make the right hires. Despite the position being cut from the budget before it began, Greg's investment in talent acquisition left a lasting impression on me. I've since shared this book with countless individuals before they embark on new roles, and I'd like to extend the opportunity to all of you. If you're joining a new team, understanding the concept of being "in and out of the box" in this context is invaluable. Here's an excerpt: Being ‘In the Box’ Distorts Your View of Reality When you’re in the box, you see only your own interests and have a distorted view of others—you see them as objects or as problems standing in your way. In contrast, when you’re out of the box and not limited by your distorted view, you see people as being human like you and having equally legitimate interests. How you feel toward someone depends on whether you’re viewing them from in or out of your box. Let's #getupandgo!

If I were hired as a beauty retail leadership position , my first 30 days would focus on three key areas: Team Engagement: I would prioritize building relationships with my team through one-on-one meetings and team huddles. Understanding their strengths and challenges is crucial for fostering a positive work environment. Customer Insights: I would spend time on the sales floor, observing customer interactions and gathering feedback. This hands-on approach will help us identify opportunities for improvement and enhance the customer experience. Operational Review: I would assess current processes and performance metrics. By identifying quick wins and areas for optimization, we can create a roadmap for sustainable growth. I believe that success in retail starts with a strong team, satisfied customers, and efficient operations. This post may make some uncomfortable, and I am 100% ok with that because with discomfort comes the opportunity for growth. When I was an NFL cheerleader we had a interesting approach to auditions…(don’t leave me hanging post in the comments if you’ve experienced what I’m sharing 💋). This is what it was: our teams were strategically chosen to represent our customer. Meaning diversity was valued…we wanted the best of the best balanced with true representative of our city. You needed to be charismatic and talented and smart and an amazing performer, but the judges understood the assignment - we needed the best and most representative performers available. Having said that and comparing that experience with my recent engaged with numerous Hiring Managers and Executives in the Aesthetic sales space, (encompassing everything from device and skincare companies), I am a little *deep sigh* disappointed with our industry. I am so grateful for my VP that hired me as a Regional manager at my former company. We had a strong sales leadership team and our diverse perspectives fostered significant growth sometimes with just our will, our teams and duct tape! Reflecting on the industry's landscape, it's evident that the lack of diversity, starting with field sales and first-line managers, persists as a critical issue. The belief that diversity is a mere "soft" benefit or social activism undermines its profitability and operational efficiency. The homogeneity among Executives not only hinders profit maximization but also signals potential implicit biases that could be detrimental to financial success and customer resonance in the evolving aesthetic/beauty sector. I have almost a decade of experience as a Hiring manager in more than 1 industry. One way that I’ve built high performing teams is when I am hiring I’m not just hiring for a role or a territory. I’m hiring for missing links on the team. During college I had the chance to work in competitive sports. (Thank you CBS sports). I wholeheartedly agree . The composition of winning teams must encompass the diversity that mirrors both our workforce and customer base. In fact, diversity is an indispensable catalyst for success across all industries. While it is undeniably crucial for hiring managers to select the most qualified candidate, it is equally imperative for managers to bridge any gaps and construct winning teams that authentically represent the cultural diversity inherent in our workforce, our customers, and the global community. Consequently, it is imperative that we, as a part of the minority workforce are afforded the same opportunities as our non-minority counterparts. We deserve to be regarded as equally esteemed partners and positioned in roles that amplify our skills, thereby opening doors to a multitude of opportunities.

Hi all. I believe I have one of the best and most engaging communities on the planet. Without you all, none of my crazy ideas would come to fruition, especially People Mobile. I need your help LinkedIn fam. My good friend and my Sales Manager, as I have posted, is struggling for his life on a ventilator right now. I'm believing he will make it and have an amazing story to tell. As I continue to build the company we have been working together to build the past year, I need leaders to come and join me. "Leader" is not a title, it's a kind of person. Titles are what we do, Leader is who we are. Three stores will be open within this month, with another two pending in the Tampa Bay area! I can't do this alone, I've never been under that illusion. My entire career is understood through seeing the amazing team and people with me. Would you do three things for me? 1. Continue to pray for Jarred Spurlock Spurlock and his amazing wife and two sons. They are the ones really wrecked and going through the worst of this storm. 2. Share People Mobile's job post? We have an immediate need for at least three Retail Store Managers and six Wireless Experts. Im also open to thinking outside the box. I want amazing people on this team, not amazing "roles". 3. Tell your friends and network about us? We started this company ultimately to prove that Wireless retail can be successful by putting people first. I have never in my career had such a mix of emotions. This is hard, I love and miss my friend. But, he would tell me to face the emotions, but do the right thing anyway. Lets continue this together.

Today, I had the pleasure of onboarding a new team member—someone I’m genuinely excited to work with and have high hopes for. However, I heard a recurring question from several colleagues: “They don’t have any retail experience. Why are you so confident in them?” My answer? Work ethic. I can train someone to run a register, serve customers, sell our loyalty programs, down-stack a truck, stock shelves, understand our metrics, and every other nuance of our jobs. But what I can not train is the drive to succeed and the attitude they bring to work every day. When I hire, I’m not just looking for a resume packed with years of retail experience. I’m looking for someone with the determination to show up and give their best effort. That’s what truly matters.
