DOUBTS IN THE INTERPRETATION OF IEC STANDARDS? Post here and I write my interpretation. Standards sometimes are confusing. An example is IEC614391/2. A revision of Table 6 for temperature rise limits could make it understandable by testing labs like IEC62271-1 is. Also, a figure showing the intended test circuit should be included. No lab I know understand the circuit to use * (one source? many sources?) (*) . If you have a doubt about any IEC standard part post it here with sufficient information. IEC 61439 standard follows the philosophy of IEC 60947 series i.e. IEC 61439-1 is ‘General Rules’ standard to be referred to by subsidiary product parts of IEC 61439 series. The IEC 60439 standards were ambiguous about how to assess compliance of partially type tested assemblies. As a result manufacturers and testing bodies often treated partially type-tested assemblies differently. One of the main features of IEC 61439-1 is that the discrimination between Type Tested Assemblies (TTA) and Partially Type Tested Assemblies (PTTA) has been eliminated by the verification approach.

Stay Ahead with the Latest Standards: Discover the Fourth Edition of IEC 62368-1! Are you a manufacturer or compliance professional striving to stay updated with the latest standards? Then you need to know about the newly released fourth edition of the hazard-based standard IEC 62368-1, launched on May 26, 2023. Additionally, the European version, EN 62368-1:2024 + A11:2024, was published on April 19, 2024, and is expected to be cited in the official journal soon. The North American equivalent is anticipated in late 2024 or early 2025. The fourth edition of IEC 62368-1 introduces significant updates from the third edition, including: 1. Component Certification Changes: Components/parts certified under IEC 60065 / IEC 60950-1 will no longer be accepted. Existing components certified under these old s tandards will need retesting or new certification documentation to comply with the fourth edition. 2. Coin/Button Cell Battery Requirements: Revised requirements for equipment containing coin or button cell batteries (clause 4.8). 3. Fire Enclosure Adjustments: Updated requirements for bottom and side openings in fire enclosures. 4. Wireless Power Transmitter Revisions: Enhanced requirements for wireless power transmitters. 5. Secondary Lithium Battery Modifications: Expanded scope to include devices with non-portable lithium batteries, removing the "portable battery only" reference (clause M.4). Ok IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) you are stating IP means ingress protection but Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in BS7671 (p48 abbreviations) state it means international protection Please can someone finally clarify what IP stands for? Is IEC correct or is IET and bs7671 correct ? It’s a real debate as we all go by BS7671 but who is correct?
