The event will focus on innovative solutions and international collaboration to decarbonize the road sector. Organized by PIARC Technical Committees 3.5 “Road infrastructure for road transport decarbonization” and 4.5 “Decarbonization of road construction and road maintenance,” the conference will provide a platform to share best practices, explore new technologies, and foster global climate action. Day 2 in Brussels at the three-day event "Staying the course in turbulent times" on EU climate and energy policy, hosted by the Kopernikus-Projekt Ariadne. Today's topics comprised a motivated discussion on the question of closing the transfer and support gap in the EU-ETS 2 - how to assure that no one is left behind during the transition to climate neutrality. Re-distribute the income from the ETSs to the population, or finance structural measures, or a mix of both? Re-distribute per capita, or differentiate per region or income group? How can we deal with push-backs against climate policies, fueled not only by reasonable and justified worries, but also by deliberate and systematic disinformation? Fight fire with fire? Play nice and lose honourably? Or something in between? My favorite answer to those last questions came from MEP Anna Stürgkh: "Let's not be populist, but popular". Well said! Then a great afternoon session on the decarbonization of buildings and the EU Regulatory Framework on Renewable and Low Carbon Hydrogen to round up the day. 🤝Bridging the Divide: New Narratives for Climate Action🤝 💭 Research reveals that most of the polarisation stems from misunderstandings and misinterpretations. 💭 Drawing from the groundbreaking insights of the first European Narratives Observatory, the Narratives Observatory combatting #Disinformation in Europe Systemically (NODES) held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, the #Depolarisation Exhibition “Bridging the Divide: New #Narratives for Climate Action”. Hosted by Leire Pajín MEP and co-hosted by Magdalena Adamowicz MEP, Vytenis Andriukaitis MEP, Brando Benifei MEP, Dobrev Klára MEP and Lena Schilling MEP, this engaging exhibition explored the cognitive paths that lead us to divergent conclusions and showed how to bridge differing worldviews and foster genuine dialogue. It sent a strong message to #policymakers across Europe about the importance of moving beyond entrenched positions and engaging in meaningful deliberation. 🗣️In the Inauguration of the Exhibition, which counted with a presence of more than a dozen MEPs from several political groups, Erika Staël von Holstein, Chief Executive Officer at Re-Imagine Europa, expressed that “difference of opinion is a good thing because #depolarisation does not mean consensus. Along with Kei-Retta Farrell, Marissa Allen, and Maria Silcott, I had the opportunity to represent Montserrat at the Green Overseas Climate Finance Forum in Brussels. The forum provided a valuable platform for discussing climate finance challenges and potential solutions for Overseas Territories like Montserrat. Our focus was on understanding funding opportunities and pathways for renewable energy, infrastructure resilience, and biodiversity conservation. Discussions around innovative financing models, parametric insurance, and exploring new mechanisms for climate funding offer promising avenues to strengthen Montserrat’s climate resilience.
