I was just talking yesterday about Scottish Outer Isles sustainable marine connectivity. May I suggest that Central & Devolved Government should study and embrace Rolls Royce's innovative, carbon efficient, marine propulsion solution. This will encourage zero carbon, all battery propulsion systems for smaller craft. Then what we need to focus on is building port-side electrical infrastructure plus beefing up the local supply network at LV-substation. At night, when ferry ops are suspended, these vessels will create a virtual portside power hub thru V2X, delivering power network distribution resilience. It is obvious, that electric (air) vehicles are having a emissions foodprint comparable to conventional vehicles. I would like to see studies that compare the commercial use of electric vs fossile driven aircraft including the emissions from operations. The below study compares very short usage phase of 4000h (of a two seater). Considering comercially viable lifespan of 10yrs and a (low) utilisation of 50%, the usage is around 43800h. This would have a significant impact and should be presented. Maybe a topic for a sensitivity analysis with data from this study:

Very good article on vessel wind propulsion and the use of weather routing to maximize wind propulsion.

There’s a prevailing theory out there that electric trucks are going to save the world and their adoption must be accelerated.
