Hiring managers: Are you a parent? If so, please remember that you once took on the most important job of your life without direct experience. It’s probably worked out just fine for you. You figured out a unique way to succeed. Keep that in mind the next time you come across a candidate lacking a track record of having done the job before. Especially if they have transferrable skills and a history of learning new things. Give people a chance to show that they could do the same thing you did. If you're hiring, and will only take someone on who hits ALL your requirements, it's not going to end well. Why do I think this? 🤔 Pretty simple, really. There's nothing in it for either party. No value add. The candidate doesn't learn anything new/ grow in a role that they already know how to do every element of. No growth = no promotion/salary increases. And no fun! The company gets someone who will get bored very easily, frustrated with no skills/wage growth and will leave fairly quickly. So, I implore you, Hiring Manager, to have a reallyyy good think about what you ACTUALLY need the person to do, and what you can teach. When I am hiring, I don’t focus on what school the candidate went to or what companies they have worked for. What I do focus on is: *Who they are as person *Their energy *Are they a good person? *Do they have grit? *Are they determined to succeed or do they give up easily? *Are they coachable? *Will they be a cultural fit?
