As people contemplate their summer holidays, I put forward the suggestion that if you enjoy history there is no place like London. The British Museum (and the myriad of war, airplane and castle based museums) is mind boggling as at the height of their power, the empire merrily “collected” treasures from every corner of the world. In my opinion, the only rival would be the “collected” pieces that are stuffed into every corner of the Vatican (The irony of Greek gods everywhere is something to behold). The below gives a brief glimpse into a few of the treasures they hold and a small sliver of the fascinating history.
Oh think France and The Louvre hold their own in that particular contest 😃
Great suggestions Michael! Also for those that can't afford or desire overseas travel there are also plenty of wonderful local museums that are way under visited. You will also find very vested folks there that love to discuss what they are displaying. Makes for a fun outing.
100% agree, Michael. This is a beautiful museum to visit as a history buff. Also, the Natural History Museum in London is stunning as well, specifically its architecture.

5moPerhaps you should visit the Musee Carnavalet in Paris. Paris is more than 2000 years old and the museum provides a very compelling walk through time. This fascinating museum is not as large is The British Museum but is nonetheless worth visiting. And if you really want to visit a museum which chronicles a unique historical focal point in European politics while being ancient itself, look no further than the Polish History Museum. The role of Poland in history is greatly misunderstood.
