If you have the chance to help someone's career in the way of a positive reference, do it! It is easy to just check a couple of boxes and not leave any comments; but if you really want to help them out, write detailed comments that highlight some of the great things that they've done. I received the below quote from a company that was performing the reference check: "Thanks so much, what lovely things to say, we often hear the bad, it’s refreshing to hear the good! Thanks 😊". It doesn't take much to help someone out. #referencechecks #HRstuff #nowhiring #WGOC #Zelistotle #references #companyculture #humanresources #careerdevelopment #jobsearchadvice
What I appreciate the most is an HONEST review from the person that the candidate reported to. If it was good, give me the good, if it was a bad experience, give me the bad. If it was a personality conflict, great, tell me that. Hard worker, bad attitude, I'd love to know. Great attitude, poor attendance, please tell me. If the candidate was amazing, yes, I love to know that! It gives me confidence when presenting someone. But if the candidate was a bad apple or did something egregious, I really need to know! But as recruiters, we need to go to many sources for references, because we can't just take one person's perspective.
This is why we should never burn our bridges. We should diverte that anger we have to joy and release any aggressions. Your moving on. Get over it and your attitude.
It also shows integrity too.
Uhhhh....waiting? Cheers.
Its never a bad time to give a good reference.
