Climate emergencies are not gender neutral. In fact, the degradation of the planet’s natural systems has a disproportionate effect on women and girls. On this International Day of Women in Multilateralism, we recognize and celebrate the important contributions women make to scientific discoveries, the conservation of ecosystems, and efforts to reduce threats to biodiversity. Women play a crucial role in promoting sustainable development and ensuring that the needs of present and future generations are met. Their participation in decision-making processes is critical to achieving global environmental goals and creating a more just and equitable world for all.

Well said women's voices are critical and more must be done to dismantle entrenched gender barriers in environmental realms. How can organizations like the UN furtherresource and platform women doing environmental work locally? Are there initiatives planned this year to actively recruit and appoint more women scientists, policy-makers and conservation leaders?
