The story brings so much joy, it’s all about #pets in China 🇨🇳 and Japan 🇯🇵 . It is estimated that by 2030, pets will outnumber children in China by 2 to 1 when China will have more than 70 million urban pets versus 40 million under 4 year old humans. This also means the pet food industry is growing and is forecast by Goldman Sachs to have a market value of $12billion USD by 2030 with a an 8% CAGR since 2023, and its more optimistic estimates predict pet food in China to reach $15billion USD. These forecasts are based on reviewing data from Japan where the 20 million strong pet population is 4x bigger than the country's population of children under age 4; and Japan’s pet food market is 8 times bigger than its infant milk formula market. China, South Korea, Indonesia, and Vietnam are just some of the countries that still allow the trade and consumption of cat and dog meat. Although most people in China have declared that they do not eat the meat of these animals, it’s estimated that more than 10 million dogs and about 4 million cats are killed for human consumption every year. I appreciate image is horrifying, but having lived in and travelled extensively in many parts of Asia I can attest the dog, cat, monkey, horse, birds, endangered mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, species, etc. trade being very real! Numbers cited are likely very conservative, because there is a huge underground trade, especially in countries where such practices are illegal or exported. Shipping American Horses, donkeys, mules, and even dogs, cats, etc. via trucks, trains, and planes to other countries for consumption, using them as bait in dog-fighting, and even using dogs cats, and other animals as food for other animals definitely happens far more than you may know. So, I respectfully implore all animal lovers to • please sign any petitions or speak out against this in any way you can • refrain from buying any leather or fur products made in Asia, even if you wear such products • beware what and where you eat and purchase food, if you are a meat-eater. “Steak, burger, meatballs, sausage, etc.” are not always what you expect. Please also know, this happens in Africa, Latin and South America, Mexico, and even behind closed doors in parts of Canada, the USA, Europe, beautiful islands, and everywhere imaginable. Matt Damon and other celebrities have been to Yuen Lin, witnessed the horrors and already taken action - as you can view online. Willy Nelson has a ranch, where all his horses were rescued from slaughterhouses. Millions of helpless animals’ lives end in the marketplace, horrifyingly cruel slaughterhouses, streets, or even people’s homes. However, most victims suffer even worse cruelty being raised in barren cages for their meat, leather, and/or fur, captured while roaming free, and even very often lured and stolen from loving homes then transporten in the cruelest ways with no food, water, or proection from extreme heat, freezing temps, etc. purposely torturing animals, prior to killing is also widely practiced. I apilogize in advance, for upseting people, by opening the eyes of many, who were previously unaware of these practices. However, awareness and action are essential to at least expose and begin to save precious lives and at improve conditions of animals in areas, where where we cannot yet stop dogs, cats, and other animals we consider pets being slaughtered for food.
