Have you ever said ‘no’ to an assignment because you didn’t like the company or organisation and didn’t want to help them win? I know - a lot of you are probably shouting ‘heresy!’ - winning is everything, right? But it’s a personal question. A kind of private go/no-go decision that you don’t even have to tell anyone you’ve made. You don’t have to say no, as such, you can simply not say yes until a colleague steps in. Does your company have any red lines? Bombs and bullets, perhaps? NHS privatisations? Old Trafford regeneration plans? I’ve supported one or two major organisations that I was pretty ‘meh’ about, but they were both winning bids so you can’t say I didn’t try. Once I’m in, I’m in! 😊 Morals, or money every time? #proposals #bids Strategic Proposals

The financial landscape in the NHS in 2024 is arguably one of the most interesting of recent years as the tail effects of the pandemic on #workforce and #productivity combine with the impact of #technology and the unprecedented #complexity of care. This conference is, in turn, arguably one of the most important of recent years. We need to assert stronger grip and control on productivity in healthcare than ever before. The role of teams at all levels, from ward to board, in fully understanding their own financial and operational data to enable truly informed decisions to be made, is absolutely critical. At RLDatix we have a suite of analytics and solutions to enable Trusts to interrogate their productivity against clinical pathways, enabling rapid insight and improvement in operational outcomes. The outcomes that matter are the ones reflecting safe and effective patient care. How we weave sound financial governance into that fundamental requirement is the key to success.
As Claire Wilson, HFMA president 2023/24, says: our annual conference is a great place to really feel the camaraderie within the finance function, and we're already looking forward to seeing our colleagues from across NHS finance in December. The programme is shaping up with confirmed speakers including: Louis Theroux, documentary presenter Julian Kelly, deputy chief executive and chief finance officer, NHS England Paul Johnson, director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies Ketul Patel, chief executive officer, Virginia Mason Franciscan Health Sarah Woolnough, chief executive, The King's Fund Find out more and book your space at the face-to-face or online event here: https://okt.to/qvXGny

Just in time for Easter - the 2024/25 NHS operational planning, finance and contracting guidance has been published. Unfortunately not in time for NHS organisations to do much about it - one working day notice to the start of the new financial year. No big surprises as far as I can see, but a challenging year ahead with a focus on maintaining quality and safety, improving performance across all areas/metrics and increasing efficiency and productivity - against the backdrop of a worsening underlying position and the potential for ongoing strike action. I feel for the many systems, providers and others at a local level that now need to turn these into credible and worked up plans, delivery and action. I fear that the delays to the planning guidance will only lead to another year of short-term planning, salami slicing and non-recurrent measures when we should be prioritising medium and longer term planning and opportunities that will genuinely improve financial, clinical and operational sustainability. https://lnkd.in/eMu5J9rT

Ready to embark on the journey of securing SAMHSA grants for your organization? Here's a detailed roadmap to ensure a smooth registration process: 📌 1. DUNS Number Registration: Ensure your DUNS number is registered and active in SAM. This unique identifier is crucial for federal grant applications. Remember to update your SAM information at least every 12 months for both grantees and sub-recipients. 📌 2. System for Award Management (SAM) Registration: SAM is your go-to federal government-owned website. Keep your SAM information updated every 12 months to stay active. After updating, wait 48 to 72 hours for the validation process. Grants.gov won't accept submissions from applicants with expired registrations. 📌 3. Grants.gov Registration (Username and Password): Allow at least two weeks (10 business days) for these registration processes before submitting your application. Be sure the person submitting is registered as the Authorized Organization Representative (AOR) for the specific DUNS number on the SF-424 (first page). Ready to make a positive impact? Let Key Writing Concepts help and dive into the SAMHSA grant application process with confidence! 💼🌟 #samhsa #grantapplication

If you haven't already read it, my colleague Mark Bate published a great report on the value of commercial expertise on NHS Trust boards. But do we need more commercial and sales skills on Housing Association boards? I was in an interesting conversation with a NED from a housing board yesterday who made the point that housing providers have (very rightly) made a big push to bring more individuals into the board room who understand the local community, their interests & perspectives. But there is still a need to connect this point of view with commercial or operational reality. Traditionally sales or commercial executives (inc marketing) have traditionally been very good at managing this balancing act. Is there a role for them to play in the social housing sector? https://lnkd.in/e_g-Kkwp #housing #NEDs #boards
