Last week's Air Quality was unhealthy for most people (AQI 101- 150) in Battaramulla and the highest daily AQI value was recorded as 125. Akurana, Digana, Nuwara Eliya, Dambulla, Kurunegala, Colombo, Gampaha, Negombo and Ambalantota showed moderate Air Quality conditions (AQI 51-100). The quality of air has improved compared to the previous week. For the next week winds will be at 5 - 10 kmph and wind direction can be expected with some wind coming from the Southern Indian Ocean. Therefore, improved air quality conditions can be predicted for next week. Singapore Airlines turbulence on May 21, 2024 victims offered payouts: ✅The company offered a full fare refund to all passengers on the flight, including those who did not suffer any injuries. ✅The airline said it will pay $10,000 to those who sustained minor injuries. ✅For passengers with more serious injuries, the airline is providing "an advance payment of $25,000 to address their immediate needs" and further discussions to meet "their specific circumstances". ✅A 73-year-old British passenger died and dozens more were injured when flight SQ 321 encountered turbulence over Myanmar and was diverted to Thailand. More than a hundred people who had been on SQ 321 were treated in Bangkok hospital after the incident. Early investigations showed that the plane accelerated rapidly up and down, and dropped around 178ft (54m) over 4.6 seconds. Passengers described how crew and those not wearing seatbelts were sent flying and slammed into the cabin ceiling. Air Turbulence events happening more often, recent studies have shown a significant increase in the frequency and intensity of CAT conditions over the past few decades. This increase is linked to several factors, most notably climate change. Researchers from the UK's University of Reading found that a doubling of carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere could cause light turbulence to increase by roughly 59%, moderate turbulence by 4% and moderate-to-severe turbulence by 127%. On May 27, 2024, latest incident of turbulence being investigated by Qatar Airways. Passengers on a Qatar Airways flight have been injured during turbulence less than a week after a Singapore Airlines. 12 passengers were injured including 6 crew members after Qatar flight QR017 from Doha experienced turbulence while flying over Turkey. Dublin airport said all passengers on the Boeing Dreamliner 787 had been assessed for injury before disembarking the plane, and 8 were injured enough to be taken to hospital. People wonder why the flight didn't divert and continued its way to Dublin? One of the passengers on the flight told the Irish broadcaster RTÉ that he saw people “hitting the roof” and food and drink going everywhere. Qatar Airways said the incident was being investigated and that a “small number of passengers and crew sustained minor injuries in flight” and were receiving medical attention but 👉 no compensation offered or even communication.
