Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that have been used in a wide range of products for decades, including non-stick cookware, waterproof clothing, and firefighting foam. However, these chemicals have been found to have harmful effects on the environment and human health. PFAS chemicals are highly persistent and do not break down easily in the environment, this is why such chemicals are also called #ForeverChemicals. They have been found in water sources, soil, and even in the bodies of animals and humans. 😊 Simple but great 😊 Surface slip is evaluated by placing a weight on a coated panel and tilting the panel until the weight starts to slide. The coating at the front contains a polysiloxane which improves surface slip; the one in the middle has no surface additive (= control); the panel at the back contains a wax additive which gives anti-slip properties. A weight is then placed on the end of the panel and this side of the panel is slowly lifted until the weight begins to slide down. The difference in surface slip is clearly visible, isn't it? Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is widely used as an additive for reducing the friction coefficient and decreasing abrasion loss. However, it has its weaknesses in abrasion resistance. Additionally, PFOA and PFAS, which are contained in PTFE, are becoming restricted as environmentally hazardous substances globally.
