Thrilled to see pre-clinical funding in the EU picking up as well! Asgard Therapeutics, a Swedish biotech advancing its in vivo cell reprogramming platform, has raised €30 million ($32.8 million) with the help of several Big Pharma venture arms. New investors Johnson & Johnson Innovation - Johnson & Johnson Innovation JJDC Inc and RV Invest co-led the Series A, with support from existing investors Novo Holdings, Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund, and Industrifonden. The proceeds will be used to progress Asgard’s lead program, expand its R&D team, and support work on new drug modalities and delivery platforms, per a Thursday release. Asgard’s lead candidate, AT-108, triggers a personalized immune response against cancer by "reprogramming" tumor cells into antigen-presenting type 1 dendritic cells. Thrilled to share our latest study, representing a fruitful collaboration with Prof Steve Evans and the talented Leeds microbubble team. Our work focuses on therapeutic microbubbles developed at Leeds, aiming to enhance the selective delivery of cytotoxic anti-cancer drugs to tumors. Through the application of a destructive ultrasound trigger, we've successfully released the cytotoxic payload within the tumor environment, thanks to the remarkable efforts of Amanda Race, Paul Loadman, and Nikki Ingram. Our study delves into the innovative use of an alternative maleimide–thiol linkage to connect liposomes (the carriers of cytotoxic drugs) to the microbubbles. Moreover, we've explored how this linkage impacts the distribution of drugs within the body, shedding light on novel avenues for targeted cancer therapy. Artiva Biotherapeutics is looking to raise up to $135 million from an Initial Public Offering (IPO) to fund clinical trials for its leading allogeneic natural killer (NK) cell therapy. The San Diego-based company revealed these plans in a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing, with expectations of selling 8.7 million shares priced between $14 and $16 each 💰 💵 The major focus for the proceeds will be on advancing the clinical development of AlloNK, a non-genetically modified, cryopreserved NK cell therapy. Currently, AlloNK is being tested in a phase 1 trial for lupus nephritis alongside Roche's Rituxan or Gazyva. It's also part of another study that spans multiple autoimmune indications. This week we sequenced 1433S, 14-3-3 Protein Sigma. 1433S is a multifunctional protein with significant roles in cell cycle regulation and tumor suppression, making it a potential target for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. In addition, it plays a role in and could be a potential candidate for neurodegenerative and autoimmune disease. Our sequencing result demonstrates how Next-Generation Protein Sequencing™ data on the Platinum® instrument can be used to sequence and characterize potential therapeutic targets, such as mutations of 1433S. By analyzing the kinetic signatures from specific N-terminal amino acid recognizers, we identified 13 amino acids (F, Y, W, L, I, V, R, A, S, N, Q, E, and K), enabling identification of 7 peptides of 1433S as shown in the figure.
