May was a busy month for us at Beacon Strategies. We’ve been working with Hunter New England and Central Coast PHN to engage primary care professionals in developing a primary healthcare workforce strategy. Over the course of the month, we reached 226 stakeholders — a solid outcome. How did we achieve this? Well, it helps to be given a topic that is directly relevant to our target audience. Many rural communities are seeing increased demand for services and a decreasing supply of GPs. We used several engagement methods: 1 — Face-to-face workshops after hours 2 — Virtual workshops after hours 3 — A survey for those who prefer asynchronous participation 4 — Phone calls to practices that didn’t engage through other channels (yep, phones do still exist and simply having a chat is valuable) Now, it’s time to compile all the feedback and keep moving forward.

If the answer is yes, maybe think about entering your organisation into the Social Mobility Employer Index. The Social Mobility Foundation is holding webinars shortly to find out what it entails. Further details below. Working in #careers, I often tell #students and #graduates about the Social Mobility Index, particularly those from a #wideningparticipation background. I encourage them to target and apply for roles at these organisations because I feel these employers are genuinely trying to level the playing field. Students and graduates often view these employers as more #accessible with #values that align with their own. PwC had the top spot in 2023 with Browne Jacobson (the top law firm) coming in at second. Both doing great work, as are the other organisations in the index in order to secure their place.
