When people ask why I dedicate my time to mentoring for CAPSLOCK and do not get paid for it, I think this question massively overlooks the fulfilment that comes from volunteering. My engagement is not driven by financial incentives but by a genuine passion for nurturing talent and witnessing transformative journeys unfold. The joy of mentoring does not have a price for me, it is about being part of an individual's growth and development in the Cyber Security field. Seeing someone like Bradley Hayes-Turner embark on their cybersecurity journey, observing their curiosity spark, and their knowledge expand with each passing week is incredibly rewarding. Their enthusiasm as they conquer each module, and the sheer excitement upon passing, just makes my mentoring experience. However, the pinnacle of this journey is not just in the learning phase but in witnessing the fruition of their hard work as their careers take off. The real reward comes when our paths cross again, on the conference circuit or at industry gatherings, and hearing how well they are doing and what they are up to etc. Watching them confidently share their insights and contribute to the community that once nurtured them fills me with an indescribable sense of pride. It is a full-circle moment that makes my face beam with happiness and my heart swell with fulfilment. Therefore, the question is not why I would mentor without a pay-check. The question is, why wouldn't I? The opportunity to influence and be a part of someone's professional journey, to see them grow from novices to experts, and to celebrate their achievements and milestones, is priceless. It is about making a meaningful contribution to the industry and, more importantly, to individuals lives. This is what keeps me motivated, what makes every moment of mentoring worth more than any monetary compensation could ever offer. To read this post from Bradley today really touched me and I so thankful to be nominated for this award, there are some formidable ladies nominated and I am looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks. Once again thank you Bradley Hayes-Turner for being a great friend and a true ally! #miwic2024
