🚀 Reflecting on My First Semester at Illinois Institute of Technology 🚀 As I wrap up my first semester at Illinois Institute of Technology, I'm excited to share some of the key takeaways that have shaped my journey across various aspects of life. Here are five lessons that have been instrumental in my growth: 🌍 Embracing Diversity: One of the most enriching aspects of my time at Illinois Tech has been the opportunity to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Embracing diversity has not only broadened my perspective but also enriched my learning experience both inside and outside the classroom. ⚖️ Balancing Priorities: Finding the balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments has been a significant learning curve. Learning to prioritize tasks effectively has helped me manage my time more efficiently and maintain a healthy work-life balance. 🌱 Stepping Out of Comfort Zones: Stepping out of my comfort zone has been essential for personal and academic growth. Whether it's participating in new clubs, taking on challenging projects, or exploring unfamiliar topics, pushing boundaries has opened doors to new opportunities and experiences. 💪 Resilience in Adversity: The journey through the first semester has presented its share of challenges and setbacks. However, cultivating resilience has been key in overcoming obstacles and bouncing back stronger. Every hurdle has been a learning opportunity, reinforcing the importance of perseverance and determination. 🤝 Building Networks: Networking is not just about making connections; it's about fostering meaningful relationships. Building networks with peers, professors, and professionals in the field has provided invaluable support, mentorship, and opportunities for growth. PIN Fellow | Keynote Speaker | Writer | Leading Expert in Community and Economic Development, Digital Inclusion, and Smart City Initiatives
Reflecting and thinking back, I am still highly honored that I was invited to be a part of Texas Tech University's STEP program last year, although due to other obligations, I couldn't attend. Many young and older men I know dreamed of becoming professional athletes or entertainers, but I never did. My dream has always been to attend college at the Georgia Institute of Technology, join organizations with values like the Partnership for Inclusive Innovation, and be enamored with how it's thriving under a superior #innovator like ED Lam, receive support from leaders like Mayor Dickens and ED Clay, and work on unique projects with pioneers like ED Lively and Dr. Anthony, Jr. Of course, I didn't know it would be the organization and notable individuals above, but they embody the traits and energy I've always wanted to work alongside and learn from. As a middle schooler, I even dreamed of teaching #English at a collegiate level and being a mentor and researcher like Dr. Klein and Dr. Lamb are to me. My mind wasn't all over the place growing up; I just wasn't raised to believe that there were any limits to what I could achieve. And even though my dreams are now my reality, I am a proud Clayton State University alum! That's what is unique about having an #associate of #arts in integrative/cultural studies and #bachelor of #science in #integrative #studies/organizational enterprise with a minor in #business. I can combine #knowledge, #communicate #information, add value to organizations in the #private sector, and solve #municipal or #gubernatorial problems in the #public sector. And I'll be even more informed and capable around this time next year!

Currently, I am in my final semester of my undergraduate degree at Swinburne University. Even though I am tackling a quite easy semester, with only two subjects to study, one of my subjects or units, is quite interesting. It's called NPS20011: Societal Challenges in Science. As a STEM student, I did not expect to encounter an unit which doesn't include academic research but blends with industry experience. NPS20011 focuses on on empowering students to make a positive difference in society by collaborating with a community or industry partner to tackle real-world social challenges. Through this unit, I have explored the role of science in addressing various societal issues. I have also also acquired essential professional skills, such as project planning, stakeholder engagement, research innovation and effective communication, which are highly relevant to real-life industry and community contexts.

The MSx program at Stanford offers a condensed but intensive experience, with the same 60-credit requirement as an MBA, completed in one year. This summer, we’re tackling six core courses, split into two sets of three. With only about 70 students on campus during this quarter, we have the campus facilities, like the library and parking, mostly to ourselves—a rare luxury! #Stanford #MSx #BusinessEducation One of the standout courses so far has been Organizational Behavior, particularly a session on decision-making. The case study we discussed presented a dilemma, leading to heated debates in small groups. Interestingly, when the class was divided into ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ camps, the majority sided with ‘Yes.’ However, upon revealing the full data, it was clear that ‘No’ was the correct choice. This exercise underscored a critical lesson for managers: decisions are often made with incomplete information, and there can be a tendency to dismiss opposing views. The case, while fictional, was based on the real-life Challenger space shuttle disaster, where a lack of full information and internal dissent contributed to the tragedy. #DecisionMaking #Leadership #CaseStudy Post-class readings included a fascinating study on the impact of open office spaces in a major company. Contrary to expectations, moving to an open office format actually reduced face-to-face interactions, as employees preferred to communicate via email or IM, leading to decreased productivity. This counterintuitive outcome resonates with my own experiences, where digital communication often prevails even in close physical proximity. #WorkplaceCulture #Productivity #OpenOffice Attached is an image of Peter Wegner’s installation art, “Monument to Change as it Changes,” located outside the GSB Knight Management Center. This “Color Wall” features 2,048 color panels that constantly shift patterns, never repeating in an eight-hour period. It’s a familiar backdrop for many LinkedIn profile photos of GSB students! #ArtInspiration #CampusLife #StanfordGSB

Transformational Higher Education Leader | Lifelong Learner | Scholar-Practitioner | Student Success Advocate | Student Experience Enhancer | Advocate for Inclusive Excellence | Strategic Leadership Minded | Data-Driven
Today, I had the privilege of attending a Division Leadership Team meeting for Student Affairs at the University of Illinois Springfield, with a guest presentation from Chancellor Gooch. The discussion focused on the vital role Student Affairs plays within the larger university ecosystem and reminded me of the deep connections between students' academic experiences and their co- and extra-curricular engagements. We explored how the practical application of classroom learning through leadership roles, campus involvement, peer interactions, and other high-impact practices shapes a holistic student experience. Creating a campus environment where all students can succeed was a shared priority in the conversation, bringing to mind the foundational principles many of us encountered in our graduate studies on higher education. One particularly meaningful aspect of the conversation centered around how we can bridge partnerships with faculty to enhance student success. A few key questions posed by the Chancellor left me thinking about the broader campus community: ✨ How do we engage the campus as a whole in student life and involvement opportunities? ✨ How can we support engagement across different areas of campus and become more aware of opportunities for students beyond our immediate roles? ✨ What would it look like to take ownership of the campus experience beyond our functional areas, investing in the broader work happening across campus? It was a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration across units to foster student success. As we work to develop the whole student, it’s clear that we must all function as teammates, committed to creating a unified campus community where every student feels supported and valued. Thank you, Chancellor Gooch and Vice Chancellor Jamarco R. Clark, Ed.D. for curating this space and dialogue. #StudentAffairs #HigherEd #StudentSuccess #Collaboration #Leadership #CampusCommunity #StudentEngagement #GoStars #UIS #UISEdu

Associate Professor of Instruction, Doctoral Student, Author, Speaker, FourSight® Certified Facilitator, Creative Problem Solving Consultant, Management Consulting Coach, Social Entrepreneur
Year one down! Thrilled to have successfully completed my first year in the University of the Virgin Islands' PhD program in Creative Leadership for Innovation & Change (CLIC). It took me about 20 years to find the right program for me. I thought other programs were the perfect fit, but thankfully, those pursuits did not pan out. The CLIC program is a page from my diary. I thought creativity was reserved for people in the arts because while in K-12, creativity was suppressed, then in corporate America, creativity was reserved for certain roles (more suppression). While in the program, my eyes opened that despite the suppression, I have been creating since I was in elementary school until today. This journey has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding. The program's rigor has pushed me to expand my thinking, question assumptions, and develop the skills needed to drive meaningful change. It was liberating in my first year to learn so much about myself, creativity, and creative leadership. I'm also excited about the unique opportunity to earn a Micro-credential in Applied Creative Thinking and Problem Solving from Buffalo State University alongside my PhD. This will provide additional tools to tackle complex challenges with innovative solutions. Pursuing a PhD is not just about the degree. It is about the transformative process of becoming a scholar, researcher, and thought leader. I am committed to using my education to make a positive impact in the world. The picture is from August 23, 2023. #PhD #creativeleadership #innovation #change #UVI #buffalostate #lifelonglearning #learningisaprocess #learninghasnodestination

Faculty Careers & Employability Manager - Science and Engineering, The Manchester Metropolitan University
The sun shone in Manchester yesterday for our Science and Engineering Education Away Day. Really enjoyed catching up with colleagues across the Faculty – and meeting some new faces too. What did I takeaway? ☀ Be a 2%- er: Strive towards those traits that 2% of the population exhibit who are consistently happy and successful (see cool postcard!). Live brilliantly and you’ll take good care of yourself, as well as inspire others around you. Thanks, Art of Brilliance! ☀ Delve deeper: What is the problem, what are the causes, what are the ROOT causes? What can we influence and what will have the most impact? ☀ Everything is connected: How can we ensure the themes of connection, inclusion, support and autonomy are incorporated into careers work. How can we ensure students feel seen and noticed. Everything is pointing towards the importance of peer-to-peer and providing the 'space' for connections here. It was great to work with colleagues to unpick what 'Employability' means across Science and Engineering - and contribute towards our Student Value Proposition too. Many thanks to Lisa Simmons and colleagues for organising a fantastic day - and to all the speakers and facilitators for their insights and energy! #science #engineering #education #careers #employability #ManchesterMet

🌟 Embracing Challenges, Celebrating Growth: My Journey at The Johns Hopkins University 🎓 As I pause to reflect on my enriching journey through my first semester at Hopkins, I'm overwhelmed with a sense of accomplishment and eagerness for what lies ahead. This period has been more than just an academic pursuit; it's been a transformative experience that has reshaped my understanding of engineering and management. The courses have not only deepened my knowledge in core subjects but also honed my analytical and strategic thinking abilities. Engaging with faculty members, who are leaders in their fields, and collaborating with diverse, talented peers has broadened my perspective, pushing me to think beyond conventional boundaries. A standout moment of this semester was the privilege of working alongside Siemens in Denmark. This international consulting project, in collaboration with DTU - Technical University of Denmark students, was a cornerstone experience. Immersing myself in a different culture, understanding new market dynamics, and contributing to digital transformation strategies for Siemens was both challenging and exhilarating. This experience was a testament to the power of cross-cultural collaboration and innovative thinking in solving real-world business problems. As I eagerly anticipate my next semester at Hopkins, I'm filled with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. I'm particularly excited about delving deeper into courses that bridge technology and business strategy, further refining my skills in these areas.
