The Big Hangup: Why the Future Is Not Just Your Phone 📱 The once-revolutionary smartphone is losing its power to amaze—and maybe its singular hold on our lives. Steve Jobs took to a stage a dozen years ago this week to introduce a revolutionary new product to the world: the first Apple iPhone. That groundbreaking device, and the competitors that followed, changed the way people communicated, ordered dinner and hailed a taxi. The technology world reoriented around the smartphone, supplanting the personal computer, MP3 players, the digital camera and maps. And the mobile economy was born. Today, it looks like the era of smartphone supremacy is starting to wane. The devices aren’t going away any time soon, but their grip on the consumer is weakening. A global sales slump and a lack of hit new advancements has underlined a painful reality for the matured industry: smartphones don’t look so singularly smart anymore. https://lnkd.in/ezkVid_Z Consider Supporting Me On Buy•Me•A•Coffee 🎨 https://BuyMeACoff.ee/Mott 🌐 It’s Just A Coffee! ☕️ Happy Weekend!

Report: Apple will soon fold…the iPhone Apple could be taking us back to 2006 when annoying calls were ended by snapping your cell phone shut. The glossy gadget purveyor is charging ahead with creating a flip phone that you can still be addicted to an iPhone that folds like a clam shell, according to The Information. Rumors turn real The more pocket-friendly flip iPhone is a concept that Geek Squad types have speculated about for years, but it now sounds like a concrete plan: Apple recently contacted suppliers in Asia about manufacturing components for an iPhone that would fold along its width, per The Information. The company also reportedly gave the new product an official code name, and was granted a patent for the foldable screen this month. Plans could still change, but if they do proceed, Apple’s engineers would need to figure out how to avoid a crease on the screen and make the phone significantly thinner. As with most of Apple’s product releases, a flip iPhone wouldn’t be the first foldable smartphone on the market: Samsung, Google, and Motorola have been selling them for years. Looking ahead…experts expect foldable iPhones to drop no earlier than 2026.—SK

For the past year, my inbox has been brimming with predictions that the next iPhone, with the new Apple Intelligence functionality, will spur a buying "super cycle" — reversing Apple's sluggish revenue growth. But I've long felt that when it comes to smartphones, AI is a feature—not an upgrade. We are many years away from consumers making their $1000+ smartphone buying decisions based on AI. Indeed, it may never be a deciding factor as AI use cases become more ubiquitous. Nobody upgrades an iPhone because of autocorrect—it's just expected as standard. AI will be seen the same way. This hasn't stopped investors from heaping expectations on the new iPhones expected later this year, despite Tim Cook going out of his way to manage expectations in the company's most recent earnings call. Mark Gurman has the scoop on what to expect from this year's devices. He shares the view that this cycle won't offer much to get Apple customers rushing to stores. A cheaper iPhone in 2025, however... #apple #tech #iphone #ai

Huawei to Apple: Hold my beer🍺 Who else is hitting the snooze button with the yearly Apple iPhone releases? 😴 Meanwhile, China's Huawei just dropped a tri-fold phone that has attracted 4M pre-orders. Since the last quarter, Apple was no longer among the top 5 smartphone vendors in China with domestic brands dominating their market. That's right - 5 OTHER Chinese brands are in the top spot. Apple’s iPhone is 6th. Much of the Western world doesn't know what they're missing without access to these phones and tech! Chinese consumers are incredibly savvy and they like value for money. They're not going to pay more for something inferior in function. The largest smartphone market in the world with almost 100M users can't be wrong. 🇨🇳 I can't wait to get my hands on one of these and leave the tablet at home!
While we’re all waiting for the iPhone 16 launch, Huawei has just dropped its Mate XT tri-fold smartphone. With over 3.5 million pre-orders and a starting price of $2,800, it's catching some serious attention. 📱✨ It’s crazy to see how far we’ve come—from flip phones to tri-fold devices. Meanwhile, Apple’s move from the iPhone 15 to the 16 seems to focus mainly on a larger screen and some tweaks to the camera. 🍎📸 😅 If this trend continues, future upgrades might end up being more of the same. If Apple doesn’t innovate further, users might start questioning whether these new models are truly worth the upgrade. 🤔 What do you think? Would you use a tri-fold phone?

An iPhone 14, which the next iPhone SE may look a lot like. | Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge An iPhone SE that feels very much like any other modern, non-budget iPhone is apparently coming early next year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The phone will use Face ID and will be capable of running Apple Intelligence, he reiterated today. That the new iPhone SE models may support Apple Intelligence says a lot about their performance — it takes a lot of RAM to run local AI features, for instance. They’re expected to look like the iPhone 14, doing away with the chunky top and bottom bezels and the home button; both are firsts for the entry-level smartphone. It’s also rumored that the iPhone SE 4 will get an OLED screen, rather than the usual LCD. Apple will produce 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Airs with “internal improvements” at... Continue reading…
