🫁 Only air is meant to go in your lungs... Sometimes, when a baby is in distress, they may 💩 while still inside of the uterus. This special 💩 is called meconium. It is a sticky, black/green color and stains the fluid the baby is in brown or green. 🌬️ The real risk here is if they breathe it in (aspirate) to their lungs just before or after delivery. Meconium is sticky and can plug up the lungs and make it so the baby can't breathe. 🛑 When this happens, it's called Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS). 🟡 If the baby is vigorous at birth (breathing well, crying, moving), they should still be monitored closely, in case they start having respiratory distress (trouble breathing) later. 🔵 If the baby is not vigorous (limp, not crying, not breathing well) focusing on helping the baby breath right away is the TOP priority. ⚠️This baby will need monitoring for the life-threatening complications that can come with MAS! ⚖️ Attorneys and nurses: have you seen a case that involved MAS? It can be devastating if it is not properly treated in a timely manner. 🍼 If you have a legal case involving a baby, please reach out to me. I'm happy to help! #medicalmalpractice #legalnurseconsultant #birthinjury

We adore our frequent fliers! We have been seeing Coda for three years to help manage his balance issues due to GOLPP (geriatric onset laryngeal paralysis polyneuropathy). This sweet old man (just turned 16) still has no idea what age is. He just rolls with it! Laryngeal Paralysis: degeneration of nerves which control the muscles that move the laryngeal cartilages, located in the throat. These cartilages control airflow into and out of the trachea (windpipe) during breathing. During swallowing, normal laryngeal function protects the airway by closing the opening to the trachea and preventing aspiration of food or water. In laryngeal paralysis, respiratory obstruction occurs because the cartilages remain in a central position causing airway resistance, instead of opening up the airway during inspiration. Polyneuropathy: the nerves responsible for laryngeal movement arise from the vagus nerve, one of the body’s major nerves. Clinical investigations have shown that other nerves are also affected, leading to clinical signs, such poor swallowing function, slowly progressing hind-end weakness, and loss of muscle mass. #GOLPP #yellowlab #labsofIG #laryngealparalysis #FrequentFliers #SeniorPets #healingartsvet #vetrehab
