Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are manifestations of Scientific Competence. Hence, the 13th National Science Quest is an avenue where these skills are tested according to the standard set in the national and international rules. Science Teachers learned the value of equipping themselves with the proper strategy that will enhance the skills of students and maximize the time available. As a science teacher, ensuring the academic competence of the learners is the top priority, thus attending the 13th National Science Quest will help me better understand the dynamics behind the competition that develops students' critical thinking skills. Furthermore, it will help me formulate effective school programs to ensure that academic preparations meet the standard practice and that the Teachers and Students religiously implement the program.

At the Irish Science Teachers Association Conference at SETU Waterford. When teachers come together, a lot of informed conversation takes place. When the NCCAie and State Exams Commission are formulating plans, they need to be present to hear and take on board the ground data. Design without ground data is rarely enough in science, so should be part of the process of curriculum design and planning, particularly with the introduction of new Specifications. One of the responsibilities of the NCCA is to inform the minister Department of Education — Ireland they need to do that, education before politics, educational informed based practice rather than a media driven vote getting practices.. #Science #Curriculum #planningforthefuture #Biology #Chemistry #Physics

https://lnkd.in/daPY4dm3 Big problems in store for the future for science teaching. IMHO the science GCSE content needs to be reduced. The course is too big for the majority of students. The old 'core' science should be compulsory but all the rest should be pre requisites for those wanting to study sciences academically post 16.

So true. I was listening to a three-way podcast recently with a someone who had a PhD in “entrepreneurship” alongside the MD of a manufacturing company and the CEO of a university owned “Catapult”. The academic was so boastful of her qualifications, but had very little to say beyond what she had read in a book, heard from her tutor or picked up from an academic paper. The Catapult guy had been in industry, but had little incisive to say beyond institutional soundbites as his “business” was fully underwritten by the hard pressed taxpayer. The MD and real wealth creator, by contrast was able to draw immediately on what we now call his “lived experience” and was head and shoulders the most perceptive, instructive, and challenging of the three interviewees. Somehow, UK policy makers have been hijacked by academe into thinking that higher education and universities are the source of innovation and economic growth. The facts speak loudly otherwise. Perhaps it’s just that academics have so much spare time on their hands, and huge wads of public R&D money in their trousers, that they can devote themselves to lobbying and influencing. That narrative needs to change. If it doesnt, we’re doomed to continue wasteful public expenditure on academics least able to crack the productivity challenge, while industrialists and entrepreneurs continue to roll the rock up the hill only to watch in despair as it rolls down again with the next policy change. Something’s gotta change.
When an academic tells you they're an "expert" in something practical. 😳 🙅🏻♂️ Having a PhD in something doesn't necessarily mean you can or should do it out in the real world.

I will always take practical experience and sales acumen over a shiny pedigree when it comes to sales folks. I can't tell you how many interviews I've conducted at this point in my career, but some of the best hires have been folks with a lackluster CV but blew me away in the interview process. #sales #leadership

📣 Calling all secondary school science teachers in Europe (including the UK)! 🌊 A research project by Amy Kenworthy, who is at University of the West of England, titled 'Enhancing Ocean Literacy in European Secondary Schools: Understanding Challenges and Optimising Educational Videos,' aims to create a comprehensive guide on developing effective marine science videos tailored specifically for secondary school students in Europe. 🤔 To achieve this goal, Amy is taking a participatory approach to investigate the challenges faced by European secondary school teachers in teaching their students about the ocean. She is also keen to gather their perspectives on using educational videos to address these challenges. 🎤 Amy is currently seeking participants for 30-minute semi-structured online interviews. Your insights will greatly contribute to my research report and guide. You don't have to currently be teaching marine topics; as long as you teach subjects like biology, chemistry, physics, geography, etc., your input is valuable. If you're a science teacher in a European school (including the UK), please share this post, or tag your teacher friends in the comments! 📬 To arrange an interview, reach out to Amy: amy2.kenworthy@live.uwe.ac.uk ⏳ The deadline for interviews is 12 July 2024.

Have you considered incorporating science activities into your preschool term activity? Not only are they hands-on and fun, but they can also be educational. There are plenty of simple and safe experiments that you can do with your preschoolers, such as color mixing, demonstrating existence of air, or even growing plants. These activities will not only keep your Preschoolers engaged, but they will also help develop their scientific and critical thinking skills. Give it a try and see how much your preschoolers enjoy and learn from it!
