Happy National Lineworker Appreciation Day! Whether our front-line crews are fixing infrastructure in below-freezing temps and feet of snow, working long into the night to restore a combined 160,000+ outages after back-to-back severe storms or hot sticking electric lines in boats after record flooding, our amazing lineworkers safely and swiftly serve our customers - no matter the time or weather!
Join us in giving our front-line workers a HUGE thank you for doing the most to ensure our customers are taken care of. 👏
Hazards are best controlled in the pre job planning. Here we have so many falures: contractor management, management of change, hot work, confined space entry, simops, and emergency action planning.
Lessons can be learned in the lives lost.
Daily pre start meetings are very important and needed. They have the PPE so there is a budget for safety. The product in the bag in my opinion would be a food product like corn, rice or wheat.
Incident command lessons or similar training for the foreman or Sup that would be similar to the Emergency Management Institute AKA FEMA training course.

Emergency Response: Among the three actions below, which is the quickest to carry out to save this man:
1. Tear the bag,
2. Lift the bag,
3. Call the Emergency Rescue Team and wait for their arrival.
Our Emergency Spill Response crews have been hard at work in Napoleon Ohio all of last week and into next week. We’re cleaning up a 7500 gallon fuel spill along the freeway. We loaded 53 trucks by 2:00 in one day. Keeping the waterways safe for everyone.
The Importance of a Rescue Plan for Tower Crane Operators. #Employers should have a comprehensive rescue plan in place for tower crane operators. This plan should offer clear protocols to follow and include contact information for the local technical rescue team specializing in tower rescues.
Employers should identify a technical rescue service that complies with #NFPA 1670. This ensures that the local technical rescue teams they rely on are adequately prepared for technical rescue situations, including those involving tower crane operators.

It’s Firefighter Safety Stand Down Week. Abandoned and condemned structures are high-risk buildings, and they are hazardous to firefighters and communities. Many high-risk buildings are structurally unsound and not safe for any person to enter. Firefighters are at increased risk of injury or death when responding to these types of buildings. Reduce the risk for firefighters by partnering with fire departments to address high-risk buildings. Learn more during National Safety Month: https://bit.ly/3xwfQw1

The panel and discussion was engaging and enlightening for both my personal experience and understanding of the advancements in safety for Energy Storage to keep people aware and informed about the current conditions for Addressing Thermal Runaway Challenges in Energy Storage!
The expert panel gave me advanced insights from the crucial discussions on advancing safety in energy storage.
We were able to explore with the moderator Adam Batz the effective strategies that are available to tackle thermal runaway challenges, with design Steven Reilly to support in ensuring a secure and resilient future.
The feedback from the community I.e. audience members gave further insight and the need for transparency and sharing of reliable data in the testing and control for BESS.
The future is with BESS in the innovation and energy transiston with research, design and clear communication of risk exposure and controls key to successful safety with such energy storage technologies and prevention of loss!
Totally agree Al, be it the Fire Service, the Police, the Military or numerous other ‘doing’ services, we have become unreasonably risk averse. Operational Discretion isn’t a ‘get out of jail free card’ for ignoring policy and procedure but it is essential assuming that:
A: The policy & procedure needs to be fit for purpose
B: Our people need to be trained and competent to do what’s needed in order to effect a successful output.
It isn’t the rank and file at fault here but the organisational leaders. They need to invest in mission command, train and trust people and get a handle on reality and not simply go for the easy option.
Apparently the water was too deep for fire crews, so they watched whilst a passer by rescued the trapped driver.
Assuming this was a local, likely retained, station attending, why aren’t they trained to deal with a risk that is on their station ground and that floods a lot?
Waiting for a ‘specialist’ crew whilst someone is in danger is not an adequate response.
I know this is a Soecial Service and the fire service might not have a statutory duty to respond, but when you join the FRS you are taught that your first duty is to save life.
The more I see and hear about the state of the British fire service, the more I despair.
