In the US, there are approximately 5,000 public use airports and approximately 3,000 of them are designated for general aviation (GA). Although these airports tend to have less traffic and smaller budgets than their larger commercial counterparts, they are still responsible for complying with FAA regulations as well as ensuring the safety of passengers and crew. The lighting needs of GA airports are also distinct from those of their commercial counterparts. Our blog “Considerations for Choosing Airfield Approach Lighting” offers a guide as to how to choose the appropriate type of lamp for GA airfields while also reducing airfield maintenance costs and ensuring the maximum return on your investment. Why Airlines Avoid the Pacific Ocean 🛫🌊 Ever wondered why airlines avoid flying directly over the vast Pacific Ocean? While safety concerns play a part, there's more to the story! 🌐✈️ The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean on Earth. If a plane were to encounter an issue over this endless expanse of water, finding a safe place to land would be incredibly challenging. 🏝️⚠️ However, the main reason pilots often avoid a straight east-to-west route isn't solely about safety. When planning their routes, pilots prefer to maximize the number of accessible airports along the way. Emergencies are rare, but having more airports available provides additional options for a safe landing if needed. 🌍🛬 Understanding these strategic decisions helps us appreciate the meticulous planning that ensures our flights are as safe and efficient as possible. 🌟✈️ #aviation #aviationsafety #airlineoperations #training #aviationfacts #aviationsecurity

🚧 Major Construction Alert at JFK International! 🚧 Heads up, travelers! New York City's busiest airport is about to undergo a $19 billion transformation, and things are going to get worse before they get better. Expect major traffic disruptions this summer as construction kicks into high gear. 🛠️ “There’s no sugarcoating it. Building a new airport while maintaining full flight operations won’t come without impacts,” says Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. But the end result will be worth it—a world-class airport for decades to come. 🌟 What You Need to Know: Use the AirTrain from Jamaica or Howard Beach to avoid traffic. It connects to Grand Central, Penn Station, and Atlantic Terminal. For pickups, wait in the cell phone lots until passengers are outside the terminal. Drop-off and pick-up at the Lefferts Blvd AirTrain stop—just an 8-minute ride to the terminals. Pre-book your parking at JFKAirport.com. While it's a bit of a hassle now, the future brings two new international terminals, expanded and modernized terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a revamped roadway network. Plan ahead, stay patient, and look forward to a brand-new JFK! ✈️ #travelindustry #traveladvisor #travelagent #jfk #airline
