ICYMI: The Prairie Land Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) recently launched its newest chapter in Decatur. In partnership with Workforce Investment Solutions, ADM and Richland Community College, the program is designed to establish a pipeline of skilled professionals to meet the needs of the manufacturing industry in central Illinois.
Prairie Land FAME is a collaborative initiative to connect community stakeholders and local industry leaders to develop the next generation of advanced manufacturing technicians. Learn more (via WAND -TV): https://ow.ly/WhsS50Urh2V
Did you know? SAMPE UK & Ireland played a pivotal role in shaping European materials engineering! The UK & Ireland Chapter, established in the early 1970s, is one of the founding members of SAMPE Europe.
Our chapter has made significant contributions, providing three European presidents and the first SAMPE International President from outside the USA.
SAMPE UK & Ireland continues to foster a dynamic community for engineers pushing the boundaries of materials science.

🌟 Unlocking Insights: The Second Phase of the Joint Early Review
In a groundbreaking initiative, NUWARD collaborates with six European Safety Authorities to shape the future of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). The Joint Early Review (#JER) provides a unique platform for early feedback, fostering innovation and anticipating international licensing challenges.
🔍 The Technical Meeting: A Milestone
At the end of March, NUWARD hosted a pivotal technical meeting in Paris.
Representatives from the following safety authorities participated:
▶ ASN (Autorité de sûreté nucléaire (ASN)), 🇫🇷 the French safety authority, and its Technical Safety Organization IRSN
▶ SUJB, 🇨🇿 the Czech authority, and its Technical Safety Organization SURO
▶ STUK (STUK - Säteilyturvakeskus), 🇫🇮 the Finnish safety authority
▶ SSM, 🇸🇪 the Swedish safety authority
▶ PAA, 🇵🇱 the Polish safety authority
▶ ANVS (Autoriteit Nucleaire Veiligheid en Stralingsbescherming (ANVS)), 🇳🇱 the Dutch safety authority
🚀 Early Insights, Future Impact
These discussions, held independently of formal licensing processes, provide NUWARD with invaluable early feedback. By addressing technical topics related to JER phase 2, we identify key enablers and conditions.
Our goal? To align NUWARD SMR's design with licensing expectations across involved countries.
🔮 What Lies Ahead
The JER phase 2 journey continues throughout 2024. We’ll delve into new technical areas while weaving in the valuable feedback received.
Kicking off the New Year with another course completed, Economics of the Clean Energy Transition, in my "Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies" Program.
My Personal Takeaways:
- Tax incentives and depreciation schedules are CONFUSING but essential to promoting clean energy transition
- More data is needed to better understand our current posture and opportunities
- Everyone has a role to play, not just commercial and industry business
Stay tuned for more updates : on this course, 2024 Year In Review, and my F1 Track Challenge (Or dive into the rabbit hole of LinkedIn notifications and throw me on mute)
"Fortress Am-Can" Homegrown Energy=Prosperity via China/Coal Free Trump 2.0 Re-Industrializtion that capitalizes on the combined strenghs of the US/CDN through a combination for food, energy & military security. Supported with an inexpensive integrated cleaner than coal energy system that supports the manufacture of all of the goods and services needed independent of coal based China i.e. made in Am-Can wind/solar/EVs/heatpumps, hydro, nuclear, geothermal, etc that is good for our collective economy and that helps reduce the carbon footprint of both the US & CDN and reduces global emissions!
Nobel winning energy innovator Rodney Allam's philosophy of removing the emissions out of the use of oil and gas instead of eliminating the oil and gas industry provides the Trump administartion an option for a cleaner than coal homegrown energy re-industrialization. Allam walked his philosophy in his two new startups that use natural gas to generate clean energy:
-NET Power for clean electricity
-8RH2 8 Rivers for clean hydrogen/ammonia
Annual Verifier Debriefing meeting, led by our Outreach Officer Romain BENOIT, for our now 7 verifiers Benoit Guillou Daniel Tabernero Marie BeaugeardMarie ScibozMario CabreroNicolas CARIONCapt Saurabh Maithani
✅Purpose of this meeting: to discuss improvements linked to the verification stage, gather their thoughts on the use of the new online self-assessment software, SmartGuide, obtain feedback on #performance#indicators and share the implementation of our quality system.
✅A valuable step for our #environmental#certification#program, of which #dialogue is one of the cornerstones.
🙏Thank you to Véronique Trudeau, Green Marine Alliance verte Program Manager (North America), for her participation and guidance.
📍In order to obtain the receive Green Marine Europe certification, participants must agree to external verification conditions. These include :
◽Submit its results to an external verification every two years using an verifier accredited by Green Marine Europe.
◽The first verification is required within two years of joining the program.
◽Certification is valid for two years from the date of verification.
◽The verification process includes on-site visits and verification of the company’s documented proof and justification in support of its self-evaluation.

Yesterday, Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States, ambitiously declared the launch of the "Stargate" project for AI construction in the USA. This initiative will be led by Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank, with an investment of $500 billion USD. It is estimated that this project will consume approximately 2,200 TWh of electricity exclusively for the American AI industry by 2030—a figure far exceeding the 1,600 TWh estimate from Goldman Sachs on April 28, 2024. To put this into perspective, this energy requirement is equivalent to more than 100 years' worth of electricity consumption for the entire population of Los Angeles.
Meeting such exceedingly high energy demands poses significant challenges. Renewable sources such as wind and solar power, as well as natural gas and hydrogen, are insufficient to sustain this level of consumption. What about nuclear fission? While it is an option, it comes with the risks of radiation and nuclear waste pollution. Could thermonuclear fusion offer a solution? Unfortunately, no company worldwide is expected to achieve commercial fusion before 2040—or perhaps even later.
Then there’s Low Energy Nuclear Reaction (LENR). Compared to the billions of dollars being poured into fusion companies like TAE Technologies, Helion Energy, and General Fusion, LENR offers unique and unparalleled advantages, as demonstrated by Star Fusion Technologies, Ltd.:
Zero carbon emissions
No gamma or neutron radiation, eliminating the need for protective shielding
No use of rare earth or radioactive elements
No need for high temperatures to initiate the fusion process
Extremely low-cost electricity generation (~$0.09 CAD per MWh projected after mass production begins in 2028)
Full-scale electrical power supply for both grid and off-grid applications
Stable and clean energy for various sectors, including automotive, AI, data centers, cryptocurrency, and more
Star Fusion Technologies is poised to provide a sustainable and groundbreaking energy solution to meet these demands. https://lnkd.in/gt4bFmFh
