Tasmanians now have the opportunity to build or buy a new home with as little as a 2 percent deposit. Under recent changes, the government will contribute up to $300,000 or 40 percent of the home's value, whichever is less. Additionally, the household income limit for buyers of new builds has increased by 25 percent, now set at $116,933 for singles and $134,475 for couples. This initiative aligns with the ongoing efforts to support homeownership in Tasmania. As stated, "The Tasmanian government will continue doing everything possible to help Tasmanians achieve the dream of home ownership under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future. We will see how this plays out, as it could also lead to stronger owner-occupier areas compared to interstate investor-driven markets. Are you looking to enter the Canadian housing market but struggling to afford a down payment? You're not alone. According to a recent survey by Zolo, 68% of Canadian home buyers used money from relatives to cover at least part of their down payment. Of those, 48% used money from parents or relatives, and 20% used money from an inheritance. The 2024 Canada Housing Market Report, which interviewed 800 Canadians who bought homes in 2023, also found that an increasing number of Canadians are pursuing co-ownership to pool resources and enter markets they otherwise would not be able to afford. The study found that 35% bought a home with either family or friends. It's a challenging market out there, but with creativity and support from loved ones, home ownership can still be within reach.
