Water and Los Angeles: A Tale of Three Rivers, 1900–1941 - PDF: https://lnkd.in/gSBpvJuH Los Angeles rose to significance in the first half of the twentieth century by way of its complex relationship to three rivers: the Los Angeles, the Owens, and the Colorado. The remarkable urban and suburban trajectory of southern California since then cannot be fully understood without reference to the ways in which each of these three river systems came to be connected to the future of the metropolitan region. This history of growth must be understood in full consideration of all three rivers and the challenges and opportunities they presented to those who would come to make Los Angeles a global power. Full of primary sources and original documents, Water and Los Angeles will be of interest to both students of Los Angeles and general readers interested in the origins of the city.

The metric system, never really made it in the USA. I made the comment to several UF co-workers and they told me “that ship has already sailed” it will never fly. I don’t think so. An interesting article that highlights the hurdle that housing development faces when dealing with utility providers, this tension will be worth watching as developers are increasingly pushed toward 100% electrification directed by city and building code and how developments are at the mercy of utility providers. What’s interesting to me as a for profit developer was reading about affordable projects and how they face similar challenges and how there is a lack of accountability from utilities

Interesting! The Great Saunter event, a 32-mile grand loop walk around the edges Manhattan. Increasingly, with the completion of pathways encircling the island, this kind of trek can become more broadly enabled. (In her piece, "Great Saunter Tips from Decades of Walking Around Manhattan" Sarah Milstein mentions that more segments of established pathways around the edges are falling into place.) Terrific to see the proliferation of these kinds of events, and, in the process, communities building this kind of walking green infrastructure! https://lnkd.in/gpE-C9F5
