New life for old walls - In Olfen, an old barn has been converted into a modern tourist information centre! 🧱 In addition to the tourist office, now there is also a learning and information centre for the region. The challenge: due to its proximity to the river Stever, the building had to be prevented from penetrating moisture. Inside, a mineral sealing slurry ensures high-performance moisture protection and the inside walls received a WTA restoration plaster finish. Outside, a versatile structural waterproofing was used to stop rising damp. 🛠️💧 Temporary masonry encapsulation helped to prevent salt deposits in the walls, followed by a protective agent concentrate for the long-term removal of dry rot. We think the results speak for themselves. 👏 You can find all the details about this reference here: https://lnkd.in/eVhNSbtJ #remmers #lets_getitdone #refurbishment #architecture #waterproofing

Almost Invisible Movement Joints The Dilex-F movement control joints from Schlüter Systems, are a game changer for residential tiled installations. With more residential clients using water-based underfloor heating for their new build projects, often using porcelain tiles through the entire ground floor or most of their homes, movement joints must be considered. The Dilex-F comes with a removable bridge section which allows the same profile to be installed throughout, even with different coloured porcelains in different areas. After grouting, the bridge section is removed and an insert colour matched to the grout colour, is inserted for a seamless appearance when combined with Schlüter’s Ditra uncoupling membrane. Best of all, at 3.5 mm wide it is barely wider than the standard floor grout space width, so is very unobtrusive in beautiful, residential settings! How have handrails changed since we started in 1946? The first explicit regulations on handrails were introduced with 'The Building Regulations' in 1965, these required handrails for "Any private stairway or common stairway" in order to provide safety for anyone using balconies, platforms, roofs or other external areas. Over time, these regulations were developed allowing the Building Act (1984) to be published, this provided further detail on not only the necessary applications but how handrails should be made and finished. Under these regulations, handrails must: 1️⃣ Be continuous for every flight of stairs with three or more risers 2️⃣ Be used on both sides of the stairway if the width of the stair is over 1000mm 3️⃣ Extend between 850mm to 1000mm above the pitch line (floor) Since being established in 1946, Lloyd Worrall have adapted with the changing regulations and requirements in order to bring our clients the best possible architectural solutions. This is what it looks like when our plasterers apply Rhinolite to a ceiling. While you might not notice how smooth your ceiling is, getting a sleek finish ensures lighting does not catch on uneven surfaces and cast shadows. #BuildingContractor #Construction #BuildingProject #JukkaConstruction #LuxuryHomes

Stone pitching, landscape architecture, and slope management play vital roles in crafting visually captivating and sustainable outdoor areas. Implementing stone pitching correctly enhances the strength and beauty of walkways and retaining walls. Landscape design concentrates on the layout and organization of open spaces, taking into account both practicality and visual appeal. Techniques for slope treatment are essential for erosion control and ensuring the durability of inclined terrain. #LandscapeArchitecture #LandscapeDesign #LandscapeImplementation #LandscapeMaintenance #LandscapeSupervision #OutdoorDesign #SustainableLandscapes

Preservation Brief #4: Roofing for Historic Buildings This Brief provides a brief history of the commonly used roofing materials in America and gives recommendations for roof repair, roof replacement and the use of alternative roofing materials. A weather-tight roof is essential in the preservation of a structure. The roof is a highly vulnerable element of the shelter that will inevitably fail. A poor roof will accelerate the deterioration of historic buildings materials, wood, plaster, paint, and masonry. During some periods of history, the roof imparts much of the architectural character. It defines the staples and contributes to the building's aesthetic.
