I am thrilled to see and share our recent cover artwork in journal ACS Applied Energy Materials. A facile preparation of high-loading electrodes for high-performance lithium-ion batteries is successfully established, which is based on a state-of-the-art aqueous processing strategy: freeze tap casting (FTC). Its delivered bilayered FTC electrodes exhibit dramatically enhanced rate and cyclic performance with good power and energy density for high-performance lithium-ion batteries. https://lnkd.in/gWF8kRsQ

Dr. Finkel's statement of “The alternative is to use batteries [and] the price of batteries is following a stunning downward trajectory.” is absolutely correct (link to article below). But not all applications are purely focused on cost and not all use cases may benefit from the comparatively shorter discharge duration lithium-ion batteries typically excel at. There will have to be diversity of technologies in the Long-Storage Duration space and similarly there will have to be diversity in lithium-ion battery chemistries to cater for various application segments. https://lnkd.in/deTbry9w

Sometimes, measuring the efficiency of electrocatalysts is complicated. Now, our researchers have used electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (or EIS, for short) to capture capacitance in a reliable manner – and it works wonders! EIS enables an estimation of activity that's accurate, which allows better calculations in key aspects like catalyst loads and potential range, eventually improving the efficiency and sustainability of electrolysers.
