"Hey Black Child" is a poem written by Useni Eugene Perkins during the Harlem Renaissance to inspire young people to dream big and achieve their goals. Listen to our students recite this powerful poem and follow along with the words below. Hey Black Child, Do you know who you are? Who you really are? Do you know you can be What you want to be? If you try to be what you can be. Hey Black Child, Do you know where you’re going? Where you’re really going? Do you know you can learn What you want to learn? If you try to learn What you can learn? Hey Black Child, Do you know you are strong? I mean really strong? Do you know you can do What you want to do? If you try to do What you can do? Hey Black Child, Be what you can be Learn what you must learn Do what you can do And tomorrow your nation will be what you want it to be #earlychildhoodeducation #heyblackchild

During #BlackHistoryMonth, Shuntae Richardson, M.P.A., quality supports specialist for the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership at National Louis University, is already looking ahead to this year’s Juneteenth holiday in June. Richardson suggests that early educators start brainstorming ideas to mark the day in their classrooms or programs, and makes some suggestions to help you prepare to create an enriching Juneteenth celebration, including: >>Visit an African American Museum. >>Meet with staff before and after the visit to discuss what you learned, what you felt, and how you might be able to engage with children and families in gaining a better understanding of Black History. >>Discuss what you have learned or didn’t learn about Juneteenth. >>Create an environment during Juneteenth that allows children to learn while having fun. >>Engage in cultural activities that can help staff and families learn from one another. In the journey towards redemption and societal reintegration, supporting individuals with criminal convictions to make a fresh start is a mission close to my heart, as I personally understand the profound challenges and complexities involved. Our promotional video delves into the critical importance of offering a second chance to those determined to turn their lives around. It underscores the transformative power of empathy, structured support, and the removal of societal barriers that often hinder reintegration. By embracing our comprehensive approach to disclosures which include vocational training, ongoing peer mentor support, and community engagement, we can create a pathway that not only empowers individuals to rebuild their lives but also enhances societal well-being. We also work to support the open minded people that are willing to offer opportunities to those that are working hard to earn them. This video captures why we do what we do, because, we recognise the potential for change and growth within every individual, regardless of their past. Get involved in this vital conversation so we can close the revolving doors and build a future where everyone has the opportunity to contribute positively to society🩵 https://lnkd.in/e3xc6_Tf
