Mental Health Strategist & Speaker | Breaking the stigma surrounding mental ill-health by delivering accessible, enlightening and inclusive mental health strategies across workplaces and education settings.
Construction has the highest rates of suicide of any industry. In this industry, we lose more men to suicide than to industrial accidents/ incidents, so whilst focusing on the physical health and safety of workers is vital, we need to be doing more to address a workplace culture that is quite simply killing its workforce. I offer training in suicide prevention with a focus on heavy industry. But for me, this runs deeper than supporting people when they're in crisis; we need to be doing the preventative work to create environments that support mental fitness. What do you think? #suicideprevention #malesuicide #constructionindustry #builtenvironment #mentalhealthinconstruction

A Kansas alliance wants to make one of the most dangerous industries safer. Here’s their plan. In 2022, the Bureau of Labor Statistics ranked construction workers second in occupational fatalities, with 1,056 workplace deaths. The industry is also among the highest in suicides and mental health challenges. Difficult working conditions and injuries can lead workers to become dependent on substances, which can contribute to mental health struggles, or vice versa. Our new alliance in Wichita, Kansas, with Associated General Contractors of America aims to change that. It will address industry and worker needs by providing: 💠Resources 💠Toolbox talks 💠Training 💠Outreach Read the full story. ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/dpu8pvvr

Mental health and safety go hand in hand. When you are safe, you feel secure. Mental Health Awareness Month brings awareness to an issue that has plagued the construction industry more disproportionately than other industries. Construction has the highest suicide rate of all industries. ~4x greater than the national average. ~5x greater than all other construction fatalities combined. Workplace mistakes are more likely to occur when employees are depressed. Jobsites are the frontlines. Setting a high bar for safety and security measures increases morale, sets standards of excellence, helps deters safety violations, and creates better general awareness. It also shows we care. Instead of being forced to "deal with it," workers feel valued and educated. Owners, GCs and jobsite superintendents who prioritize safety and security also prioritize the mental and physical well being of their workers. Let's stay safe and secure, spread the word and #breakthestigma. #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #safeandsecure #247OnsiteCameras
